Doctor Who

Go back a couple of seasons, watch Christopher Eccleston then David Tennant.

^This. The Mrs and I didn't bother with the last series, just had enough of it and instead decided to go back and re-watch the Eccleston and Tennant series (1-4, plus the specials). This made us realise just how far the show has fallen since the departure of RTD. Now there's virtually no story arc that carries across episodes - let alone series - and every episode seems to be mad dashing around followed by a McGuffin at the end to save the day. What's really disappointing though is that Moffat wrote some of the best episodes of RTD's tenure, for example The Empty Child and The Girl in the Fireplace, yet was unable to replicate that on his own.

Capaldi was utterly wasted IMO due to the lack of engaging stories.

I don't have an issue with a female Doctor, but it seems there a lot of angry people who do. I'm going to watch it, then judge it. If it's half decent, then I care not whether The Doctor is man or woman.

I hope Chibnall can bring something different and better than what Moffat left.

I don't ...however I do care about the writing...and tbh it's gone downhill...

Just looking at the recent trailer, new sonic and tardis interior has made me question it quite a lot. Especially the “would you be my new best friends” part in the trailer which cringed me quite badly.

Haven’t really watched it properly since the 11th series. Didn’t enjoy the 12th series at all, think peter capaldi is good but the writing really lets it down and having recently gone through the 9th/10th/11th again. It has made me realise just how much by.

Seems it has gone from a show for all ages, of actual relatability, actually funny jokes and feared monsters. To more for just younger viewers in its puns, storylines and characters.

Haven’t given up just yet but I hope they make some much needed changes!

It'll end up on CBBC or cbeebies if they keep it up.

used to be a show for the whole family, seems like it turned in to a show for the kids that the adults can also watch....

When does it start again?

BBC haven't announced when it will start, but Wikipedia has October as the first aired date.

The three series that started in the autumn, started in late August to late September. This 11th series has 10 episodes, which will make it the shortest series yet of new Doctor Who. Fewer episodes, so a later start might seem likely.

They're trying to chase down the source of the leaked footage, so that may or may not affect things.

All of the Doctors have been great in my opinion, the problem has always been with utterly **** writing. Since Eccleston and Tenant the writing has just been dire and the storylines nonsensical and just plain crap.

Agreed, I've liked all of the Doctors so far. I actually thought Peter Capaldi made a fantastic Doctor and loved the way they didn't just go for another youngish actor. But sadly the writing has been dire and it's just about unwatchable now (I haven't watched much of the Capaldi era because of it).

Yeah, my wife gave up on it a few into the last series, and I'm pretty much ready to do so as well. For every good episode, you had to watch four poor ones. That's just not a good return for the time spent.

This is... er different lol.

That actually brings back some memories of one of the older ones
Was it Davidson or McCoy's tardis with the hex pattern, whilst the supports for some reason remind me of the time prison thing from a couple of seasons back.
