Doctor Who

8.4 million to 6.1 million already..
Numbers need to be compared to previous series, many survive on a lot less than 6.1 million.
I have to say I haven't been amazed so far and don't feel the need to watch it live. The last episode showed some of the issues - 2 characters taken out of the story to help a man have a baby! and again the Dr doesn't seem very confident.
Andi.

I still can't get past the feeling that all the episodes are shoehorning PC ******** into them and "look how modern and progressive we are". What was the point of dedicating so much time to the pregnant man in the last episode. Added absolutely nothing.
It was all about Ryan's relationship with his dad. We might see a payoff later in the series, or it may just inform his choices as a character. But it's pretty plain to see.

I'm new to Who, maybe things are different to how it used to be, but this stuff isn't difficult.

I think people are forgetting the show is for kids and me and my lad enjoyed the episode - set in the future in space, alien creature, lots of weird things happening (male pregnancy) and JW actually stood up and WAS the Doctor in this episode instead of just one of the 'squad' ie taking the lead, making a plan/decisions etc.

However, the General/pilot - rubbish actress in this, felt more like your nan than a fearless military General.

If the writers for this season are all British, then why is it littered with stupid US colloquialisms?
I'll have to look out for those (... wonder is full script on line ?)

They are primary resale audience. Worth 10x BBC liscenc fees.
viewing figures I had seen for USA suggested it is marginalised .. I wonder if they pay up-front for a series (betting on its popularity)

TWWFTE got 1.367m, of which 0.45m were the "crucial" 18-49 year olds. BUT when you add in the evening transmission to the afternoon livecast, these jump to an impressive 2.6m with 1.2m 18-49yo
By Tsuranga however this had fallen to 0.685m, with 0.20 18-49yo, which is far closer to what S10 got
The Pilot got 0.921 with 0,32m 18-49yo
By Episode 5 Oxygen, these had fallen to 0.543m and 0.18 18-49yo and would fall further during the series before a late rally.
Not sure if the numbers are exactly comparable, but S8 averaged 2.035 (but Live+3) and S9 kicked off with 2m viewers and 1.1m 18-49yo.

presumably catch-up viewing figures don't 'mean' much to advertisers .... you can skip the adds (unless it's itv player)

No, it’s not called a Sonic Screwdriver any more. It’s just a ‘sonic’ which seems to be able to do even more now than it ever could, even though it was knocked up out of Earth junk in a very short time

Just watched the latest episode. And... Well, not sure I can say anymore really. Except I'm glad this series is ending soon. But I'm not sure that next series is going to be much of an improvement because supposedly it's all manhandled by Chibnall and already mostly written up.

It wasn't all earth junk. She used some alien stuff

Rather enjoyed tonight's episode. Some aliens mixed with a historical event. The music was great again

You would think that the Gran would think its a little odd that her granddaughter looks exactly identical to a woman she met when she was younger, even down to being dressed in the same clothes and having the same name.

Or the fact that a time travelling entity (the doctor and gang, who knows about what happens overall in that time frame), needed to ask "Who is coming?" (Who are you bringing with you?) from the brother who was showing so much hate. That's the same as time travel to 1940's Germany as a Jew, and be shocked that Nazi's are coming for you.

Then there's the doctors immediate reaction to "stories" of some fabled race of assassins and instantly label them as evil and as the enemy whilst she is the saviour. All the while, they are trying to explain to her what they are there for, and she metaphorically covers her ears and goes "nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah, I can't hear you, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah!" until the script lets her not to. Not one moment did she even try to confirm they were the actual danger or enemy. Just assumed the heck out of it all.

Mate, I can't even remember the name of the first girl I had sex with, and that was only 18 years ago. And that was even the most important thing that happened that day :D

But we're talking her wedding day, a day she has already intimated was incredibly important to her, and we're talking a name like Yazz, which would have seemed enormously out of place in 1947 (like meeting someone today called Frikadee) , and someone who was literally one of half a dozen people present on the day she married the guy she loved and the day the guy died and who was one of like 4 people at her "hen night" , and was dressed in clothes that would inherently have seemed completely bizarre and came to her wedding and home, along with an englishman, a english woman wielding a magic wand and a black guy, all in rural India in 1947 and speaking perfect Punjab, and helped her to fight against a pair of demons who appeared and disappeared at will.

You'd think given all that, the womans face and name would probably stick in the memory :)

still thing jw is modelling herself on Leanne the acting is no better than coronation street, she's all I see.

Bullet seemed gratuitous, should have freeze framed ? a la butch cassidy.

Allegorical for either the muslim/christian or even brexiteer/remainer relationships - but that would have been too close to home ... wait for series 23.

Did male doctor who, ever make similar errors of judgment about aliens motives ? so not sure female doctor should have equal pay.

filmed in Corsica ???

Thinking back over it. Twice Upon a Time Capaldi's Doctor did assume they were evil given what info he had at the time, and made sure to put his foot down to warn them that he will investigate, and if he didn't like it, he WILL stop them. I'm sure it's happened other times too, but the difference from what I remember is: He's going to look into it. And if he doesn't like it, they (The Doctor) will stop things. Jodie's doctor here was just not doing any of that fact checking first and just jumped into "I'll stop you!".

Kinda glad that Capaldi left when he did. I can't imagine even he'd be able to pull off what they've subjected poor Jodie to do production wise. Or any other previous actor who has played the Doctor.
