Doctor Who

False promises, family values, priorities, desperation, loneliness, risk, self-destructive desires.... I may also have missed a reference to the fact that Yaz is a lesbian (oh yesh, did you not realise? Yep, Lesbian. Married to a woman and everything).

Christ, thats quite the list of complex topics they delved into in a single Doctor Who episode. As with almost every episode this series they have shoehorned completely pointless and ham-fisted attempts to make Doctor who progressive and relevant to current topics at the expense of a good story.

There have always been buffer zones (aforementioned nasty tunnel) to keep them separate, but the Solitract has finally braved the inevitable destruction in an effort to reach us.

Make sense? :D

Not even a little. The plot holes and lack of any explanation is just more apparent because Doctor Who is so devoid of interest this season. Hes a bad guy. No hes just lonely. Just give us some interesting stories with proper aliens in them.

Have to say I didn't understand what the episode was about. Made 0 sense. A dilapidated cabin in the woods has a blind girl (why was she blind) in there while her father somehow managed to find a magic mirror that bridges between 2 realities via a super nasty tunnel system that he seems perfectly fine wandering through to get to his fake wife who he spends days with and neglects his daughter for. Just to get extra **** points he makes up a monster to keep her indoors while he leaves her for days. Doctor saves the day, emotions yada yada ya and then has to sacrifice herself but no, turns out shes just too amazing for the solitract to handle and it has to let her go.

The blindness was integral to the story in some ways.

She couldn't see that she had no reflection in the mirror so wouldn't investigate (not essential, but helps)
She couldn't tell that the "monster" was just a set of speakers. Would that trick have worked if she was sighted?
She immediately sensed it was not her mother, possibly because she wasn't taken in by the physical appearance of the imposter.

Not essential that she was blind, but it fitted in well with the story as a whole.

The entire series so far has not been as good as previous ones, largely because Jodie just doesn't seem to have the presence. She seems to be the "scared" doctor, rather than the sure of itself/assertive doctor in other series. She spends way too much time being scared/close to tears and/or generally feeling like she has failed, rather than being ever the optimist.

Watching a few days late, but really enjoyed this one. Probably my second favourite of the series behind Kerblam.

Female Doctor acting female. Not a criticism.

I've been watching a couple of Matt Smith episodes, as I've not previously watched any Doctor Who, since McCoy. He seems much more 'alpha', jumping in to grab the metaphorical throat of the issue before thinking too much. He's regularly wrong, though, and needs some guidance from his companion. Jodie pauses to think, and then gets prompted by a companion. Similar, ultimately.

He's more id, she's more ego.

saw the latest episode - it was ok, nothing special.
the previous 3 i binged at the weekend and was thoroughly bored with all of them.

i really want to like the new dr but she just isn't that good (although not terrible)

In the article that you linked to in post #5797, when this first appeared, it says...

'Starburst Magazine is reporting that a source at the BBC has told them that showrunner Chris Chibnall isn’t happy with how things are being run behind the scenes and is looking to quit Doctor Who after season 12. If that happens, then apparently Whittaker will walk out the door with him, as she doesn’t want to continue on if he leaves.'

Either you forgot, or didn't read it. :p

So a source said it so it must be true .

It was just hearsay and rumour nothing more.

[ slight aside - BBC diversity at play - Fiona Bruce now for question time ? ... I don't think JCW is, just, a victim of the script/directors ]

Zoe Ball for Chris Evans' replacement (he resigned over the outing of pay figures which lead to this diversity push ironically) Jo Whiley being forced onto Simon Mayo who also promptly quit and he didnt' like his team and features being elbowed out of the picture. To be replaced by.. Sara Cox. If you're looking for a top job at the beeb don't bother unless you're female it seems.

Actually it'd probably be better if you are male to have a sex change then you'd fit into the diversity quota just fine.

Don't bring your agendas to things that aren't true
