Doctor Who

Yes it's very sad. Missus was watching Dead Boy Detectives on one of the streaming channels and the same thing - not one of the characters seemed to be in a "straight" relationship. I get it that in our enlightened society minorities have to be represented, racially, sexually, whatever - not a problem. But there needs to be proportion and perspective with the majority who are not from those groups.

As regards Dr Who, well fairly obvious the BBC seem to be going out of their way to exclude over 40, caucasian heterosexuals which is fine - but for god's sake, whoever you are casting needs to be able to act and you still need to tell a decent story. I'm not expecting The Expanse but what we saw last night even makes ST Discovery look good!
Not obvious at all. I'm white and 43 and straight and don't feel excluded at all. I can watch and enjoy TV as gender and sexuality doesn't bother me nor put me off watching a show. I don't feel scared or upset because people in films and TV are different to me.

You aren't put off by God awful writing or acting either apparently :p
As I can neither lay claim to being able to act nor write TV scripts I can't really judge someone else's talent. I think to many people claim bad writing and acting for so much TV content these days because they simply don't like it.

It seems to be the most common response from people when they don't like something.

Of course you can  Surely you have watched episodes of Dr Who that were really well written episodes, then you can compare them to the utter tripe that was yesterday's talking space babies and form an opinion on which might be well written. No-one has to be a writer to judge and critique what they watch.

It is not an uncommon problem where shows or films concentrate on "issues" and the story suffers. Certainly I bailed on Doctor Who mid season of Chinbull S1 because it had become dross. And given I had watched since the Tom Baker era, it took some real crap to shake my love of the show. Nothing I hear since I left makes me think I'm missing out, if anything the focus of the "issues" sounds like it is making it worse.

Well in that case it's more like bad directing or editing. Rather than the writing. They can always take what sounds like a great story or idea and mess it up. It's more about the execution than its beginnings.

Same way a top director could take a bad script and with the right team make it outstanding. For the most part all the actors were great in both episodes.

Watched the first 2 and not the best start to a new Dr imo both stories didn't really grab me, tonal change is definitely there but I'll stick with it and see where it ends up.

People only seem to see 'wokeness' when they have problems with it.

Cause woke is a stupid word that seems to literally mean whatever the people that use it want it to mean. Don't like something, issues with race, gender, disability etc etc then it's wOkE.

What's with the Simon Cowell trousers?

The story is absolute rubbish. The doctor, well, sorry, don't like him at all. He seems very "tense" in the role.

I kind of like some weirdness, it's a better reflection of true society, but I agree that some companies go too far and the BBC is one of them. It's woke for the sake of it. The BBC seems to employ people based on what their minority score is rather than how talented they are.

Saw an interesting theory that a few people online have come up with based on a few things.

the thepry is that the series is some sort of Truman show type deal.

Based on the amoumt pf 4th wall breaks as well as the sning amd dancing. Then there are the gods of Ragnarock that were mentioned. As we know the fantasy aspect is there and the minions of the toymaker seem to be gods based on what hav
s been seen amd heard.

also the song at the end of Devils Chord made allusions to there is always a twist at the end!

Could be nothing or there could be something to it.

targetted age demographic is the problem - childrens drama, is by nature woke, and I don't watch cbbc - adult drama like torchwood wasn't.
It's never been aimed at children or for children. Irs a family show that everyone can watch together traditional at tea time.

Sarah Jane was however a children's show, airing on CBBC around the 4.30pm spot of kids TV.
