Doctor Who

Never watched Dr Who before but I decided to start yesterday to see if I could get in to it.

I've always avoided it as I've hated the low budget looking special effects, aliens and I'm not that into sci-fi as it is, but I thought it was pretty good! I'll definitely be watching it next week. With having no previous Dr experience to compare it to I thought the new Dr did quite well, but I suppose that's not knowing how he has been played in the past!

The Brigadier has appeared recently in the Sarah Jane adventures, so it's certianly possible that he could be back, especially as Moffat is much more in tune with classic who than Davies (as already seen by comments about the other rooms in the Tardis and so on).

Classic who is on all day on Sci-Fi today again :)

Bah, SJ adventures...thats like X-men : Teen High School to me. Just an offspring aimed at 6 year olds, I dont count that as Dr Who :)

Doesnt necessarily need to be the same Brigadier of course, just the character. Maybe he could zip back in time in an episode a few decades and we have the Brigadier again.

(though having said that, I would quite like to see a few more other world episodes, I am getting a touch tired of it always being focused on earth..seems a dreadful waste of a vessel which can go anywhere)

I must admit that I thought "What have they done?" when Sylvester Mccoy was the Doctor :D

Sylvester McCoy was awesome. There isn't one classic Doctor I dislike. I grew up during the time that Doctor Who wasn't on TV though, so I had to rely on TV repeats, VHS's, books etc. growing up. I have just grown so accustomed to the classic series that I find it hard to like to the new ones at all and is the reason I'm just totally indifferent to it, or have been up to this point. Matt Smith's Doctor could change that as I was quite impressed but classic Who will always be my number one favourite TV series of all time and I will always want the New Who to be way too much like the classics for my own good.

Well I say Sylvester Mccory was rubbish. So ner !

Other than him I must admit that I quite liked all the classic Doctors. Particularly Baker (of course) and Pertwee.

Which Doctor's stories do you want to start out with? Ideally you start from the beginning but it doesn't really matter to be honest whether you want to watch the first Doctor serials or the seventh Doctor serials.

Any really as I only vaguely recollect seeing any of the earlier stuff.

Cheers, Sky is now recording for the day :D

I'd also highly recommend the big finish radioplays to any Who fan, especially as many of them have brought the original casts back together (Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann (who is much better) along with their regular and new companions. Tom Baker has recently started his involvement as well.

Yum,yum

Just watched it on Iplayer.

I'm impressed, the new Doctor is brilliant, the first episode was brilliant and the previews for the rest of the series look brilliant.

Can't wait.

Not sure about the new theme tune though.

Am I the only one who isn't too upset by the new theme tune then?

I still prefer the original, '60s, Radiophonic Workshop tune anyway. But this one is hardly offensive.

Loved the episode. Love Karen Gillan. Really liking Matt Smith so far. Also liking the reconfigured TARDIS interior as well.

It took me a little while to get used to Tennant so I'll do the same here. Don't think either of them will ever top Ecclestone, but that might be because it was the revival and the writers were fresh and had everything available to them; the whole Bad Wolf arc cannot be topped imo.

I like the new side kick, pretty and can act.
The new doctor though.. it felt awkward watching him on screen, as if he was trying to say things in a certain way and then failing miserably. There were lines in which you could tell they were supposed to be expressed a little eccentrically but what came out of his mouth was like watching question time or something, just didnt seem to fit the mood or moment. I didnt find him very appealing to be honest. His first episode so hopefully he will improve.

I was also slightly miffed at the new theme tune, it was perfect so why change it?

1st 20mins was abit awkward, he seemed nervous which TBH is to be expected. New assisant - lovely. Story line was very good. Everyone seemed to settle into place at end. Overall - better than i expected and actually new doctor reminded me abit of the older doctors and now actually looking forward to rest of series. BTW remixed theme tune was actually ok.

"silence will fall" the new series story arc?
The duck pond - why was Doctor in pain?
