Yes we did (need a midfield ) but a more naturally attacking / goal scoring one which we havent had for far too long (and yes Scholes was still a good AM but in his last few seasons he didnt really score that much)

Instead of the typical central midfielder problem, we ended up with our entire team in their half of the pitch most of the time, and had plenty of our best creative/attacking players on.

It was a shambles whatever way you look at it I'm afraid.

I simply don't understand Moyes' obsession with crossing. I get crossing, if you have players who can cross, and good players in the box who can head the ball, likely beating the defenders (you can flash it across the goal too which would be better, but most were in the air). RvP has good movement but isn't going to get above a 6'4 centre back with ease. Even if your game is built around crossing, you have to try other things too.

Our players are barely shooting or trying any creative passes, it's all wide > cross > wide > cross, all down the same side of the pitch too.

Moyes has to take the blame for this at least. If we're keeping him and have to play this way, why the hell did he buy Mata?! Fellaini as a striker makes more sense.

Depressing. His post match interview likely praising our incredible amount of crosses isn't going to help either.

The problem was when he moved Rooney into midfield instead of going to a diamond with Mata taking up position behind Rooney and Van Persie (or Mata and Rooney behind Van Persie to mix it up) with Carrick taking up the Holding position in front of the back four. Poor tactical play in my opinion, given the amount of overall possession and particularly last third possession.

At one point we were playing totally lopsided from the left. Any team other than Fulham would have destroyed us down the right. With the speed and possession of our wide players, along with Mata and Rooney playing through the centre to Van Persie we could have split Fulhams defensive four while isolating their midfield holding players.

Record numbers of passes, possession and so on mean nothing if your tactical positioning cannot draw out the opposition and break up their defensive line.

Moyes has to go, or he needs to do what Fergie did and hire a back room who can complement and expand on the tactical and training regimes rather than trying to be all things to all men.

Maybe not the more well known ones, but just like a lot of "new" Utd fans this season who have suddenly become vocal, there were a lot of Liverpool "supporters" on here who wanted Rodgers out last season

Don't recall that.

Nor is it only your 'new' fans who want Moyes out, he is ****ing garbage and is just like Hodgson but hopefully people do listen that he will be 'the same' as Brendan.

didnt mean to suggest its just the new fans - sorry if thats what came across - but a lot of the "noise" is from those fans

I'm personally not even bothered about winning anything. At the moment I'm more concerned by what happens if we let Moyes spend £150m and then it turns out he's not up to the job? That sets us back even longer, unless we're lucky and get a replacement who is able to utilise the players he bought and sort the club out.

I get it's all new for him and I don't think he's a bad manager (still), but we're potentially saying he's bigger than the club. Something that is a great concern. Our future is in his hands and so far there are very few positives and it looks pretty bleak.

As for the squad, yes it's not brilliant and some of the players are getting older, but if you mix world class players with decent players, you can still have a very good team. One that can get 4th. If you have a few world class players and bypass all that is good about them (by crossing and nothing else), you end up in a situation like this.

I wouldn't say I'm a new supporter, I've supported Utd since as long as I can remember. Annoyingly, this is the first season I've followed closely, previously watched matches when I saw them on TV but rarely went out of my way to watch matches.

What's wrong with 'new' fans voicing their opinions anyway? Hardly an inviting way to keep people posting here, almost comes across as elitist.

None of the fans I know were expecting to win anything this season, however, the manner in which we're playing is pretty poor. It's clearly not all Moyes' fault that we are where we are and for that reason I doubt he'll go anywhere any time soon.

I believe United need a reliable world class manager. Carlo Ancelotti would have been my choice with a proven past record and a winning mentality. Wouldn't be surprised if he left Madrid in the summer either if they don't win anything.

Yea, he'd of been of one of my choices as well. But, regarding Moyes, how do expect people to become world class managers if they arent given the chance to prove it..

Ignoring whether Chelsea would sell him, I doubt many would have thought Moyes would be able to attract the level of player that Mata is to Utd before the end of Jan, so given a summer of widely considered "rebuilding" I dont see it being that much of a problem attracting either top quality or at the very least highly promising young players before/just after the WC

Nothing is wrong per se - its just a gigantic coincidence that so many new "supporters" all of a sudden start posting in these threads when the team is down on its luck etc/ playing badly

Hmm, Mata was not playing at Chelsea so I don't think we can draw such conclusions from his signing. It remains to be seen if Moyes can attract world class players to United when their choices and position in their current club are better.

He could have also gone back to Spain with one of the top clubs in the league this season ( Im sure I read AM were after him as well)

There are world class players in leading clubs in worse leagues, or certainly less competitve leagues

If/ When Rooney re-signs, Mata on a new contract, and De Gea signing again thats three very highly thought of players. There are plenty of players out there who arent at big clubs yet who want a chance
