Does how you are personally perceived affect how your threads/posts are seen?

Does ":/" not count as spam?
No because the chances are that the reason it is being used is because the topic is usually spam anyway and will probably be locked/deleted.

I judge people by the quality of the content from previous posts I've read.

I have a list of people in my head who I think are probably quite cool/cheeky/funny to hang out with in real life, but everything said is to be taken in jest, rarely take anything seriously (my favorite type of people, pub talk etc :D )

I have a list of people who I think I could have an intelligent convo/argument with, a serious debate (similar to in-class university arguments among group mates in projects etc)

And I have a list of people who I would probably not want to spend much time with in real life. People who I would like to put on an ignore list in real life. Either because they're annoying, unreasonable or they may just not have a lot in common with me to have a comfortable conversation.

Just out of interest (and at the risk of being called egotistical again) am I in that list?

[edit]If you don't like unreasonable I guess I'm on your second :p

I'm not sure I agree with that. Take me, for example. I was disliked, I was annoying, I was up myself. So about 5 years ago I decided not to be and I changed.

Was that in real-life or the internet? Because if i'm being honest some of those traits are still noticeable on the forum, especially in the Motors section. :D

Both, and whether you think I'm still like that or not, the list of friends I've made says different ;)

You beat me to it :)

No offence Gilly but your post saying you "used to be" up yourself but totally changed is debatable from where I'm sitting - although I can accept that maybe you used to be a lot worse, because I wasn't a forum member five years ago.

You come across as very cocky, conceited and arrogant, and fully in love with yourself.

Without being insulting, I think Gilly is just one of those people you have to meet before you can ever get a real picture of him. Traits that prior to us meeting I would have labelled as arrogant, self-centred, egotistical etc. etc; pretty quickly lose any negative aspects as they slowly start to form part of the real life mish-mash of personality. For example, many would consider him to be incredibly up himself. I know I did at one stage, he even still claims he was better at Enemy Territory than I was when we were in the same clan, and that is so blatantly not true. When you actually meet him is suprising just how modest he actually is. He's self-confident, and extremely so, but also very modest.
It seems to me that he'll give anything he wants to a try and does it with great confidence in his abilities to see whatever it is to fruition, yet that confidence is not out of arrogance or egotism but out of the very simple fact that if he doesn't do it for himself, who else will?

Sure.. he's opinionated, but when all is said and done, he's a blunt Yorkshireman, and very much true to his roots.

Personally I don't give a monkey's how I'm perceived on an internet forum.

I have a short list of fellow forum members who I rate as class A bell-ends (some of whom have already been mentioned in this thread as examples of intelligent posters, amusingly enough) and an equally short list of those who posts I'm usually guaranteed to find of interest. The rest of the forum sit somewhere between those two extremes.

I wonder sometimes how many posters are actually registered more than once here (same person, different usernames).

IIRC the Dons have tough rules and regulations on that so its very hard for people to do that

The list of friends and what they think makes no difference... we see your posts on the forum and this is what you are judged by. And they are often arrogant, pushy and pedantic from what I have read, I could likely go through your previous psots and pick out some prime examples but there's no need for it as I doubt i'm the only one that's noticed it.

Don't take it personally dude, i'm sure you're nicer in real-life.:)

I remember when Sic started a "Does anyone else find cleanbluesky funny" thread in GD.

Cillit Mod, and the thread was gone! Didn't stop a few people adding some interesting comments though.

He did apologise afterwards.
