Does something need to be done about dogs?

I almost got viscously attacked by a dog today!

Was at the post office sorting out my Giro (that's code) and after exiting and turning the corner I see a chocolate lab running around all zoomie-like. It saw me and run up and almost jumped up with front paws on my wast. I almost died

I tried to reason with it with head petting and overheard a lady from across the road watching and shouting out "I don't know whose dog it is!" - So clearly a lost dog. Had a collar for a lead but no tag.

I carried on walking and it started to follow me

I feared for my life!

As I got towards the end of the road I figured enough is enough and grabbed the collar and told Choco that we were going for a walk and he seems to understand . Figured the best place to go was the vet across the main road so crossed the traffic lights safely as he seemed to sit when I commanded each time and started walking with me still holding onto the collar.

Soon as I got into the vet he smelled the vet and went into collapse to the ground "I'm too heavy for you to move" mode lol. His tail was still wagging though but it was clear he was sketched up by being there. Gave my details to the reception and they brought out some treats and did the scanning thing which beeped. Got a call 30 minutes later saying they reunited Otis with his owner.

This is my adventure today and how I almost became dog food

Can I also just say, I never knew labs can be this strong and energetic. It took most of my energy and concentration keeping him from leading me off into an alternative direction lol

"Police said two dogs had been seized but they were hunting two more American bulldog types, which are not thought to be a banned breed"
So not XL Bullies....

"West Midlands Police released this image of one of the dogs they are looking for"
Also doesn't look like an XL Bully, remembering that the legally enshrined definition hinges entirely on approximate appearance...

They may be American Bulldogs which are strangely not deemed to be a banned breed, despite being bred from American Pit Bulls (from which it is illegal to breed, in the UK), and despite the XL Bully being a mere sub-variant of them.
Either way, it doesn't fit as neatly into your box as you would like.

Dogs seized over man's death were XL bullies

Fits my box perfectly.

Edit: For some bizarre reason the link was something I'd linked months and months ago. Where the hell my browser or the forums got that from I have no idea. Anyway I've linked the correct article now. Shows that Dis didn't read the link though...

Now this is a different article to the one we were discussing.
The original one had no such information.

My point stands that the ones pictured were not XLBs, which the Police also asserted.
I did at least read the original article...

It was indeed new information, which I didn't link in the post your responded too as so often recently it's inevitable that it turns out to be this particular breed.

Or knew what article you were referring to as I'd just read it?

Often, but not always, and it seems that no-one has yet ascertained which of the dogs actually did the killing.
I know people will still jump to the conclusion that it was the XLBs, but I'd rather wait for the official determination.

No-one cares about dead people any more. They only care about what they can complain about, and what cause they can champion to feel special about themselves.

You care about dead people so much that you defend a breed of dog that keeps on giving you dead bodies.

The breed is banned.
The breed is still killing.

How long until we get to the conclusion that:

The breed needs to be destroyed.

But yea, keep thinking people feel good about themselves when an XL Bully mauls a human to death.

I defend the principle of not mistreating dogs to the point where they kill.

The breed is banned.
The breed is still killing.
So the simple solution was effective, then...?
Despite it being banned already, it got banned again and that still hasn't helped.

But yea, keep thinking people feel good about themselves when an XL Bully mauls a human to death.
The only ones who feel good are those that get lots of likes and subs on their social media about it.
The rest of them... as with news about massacres, child porn rings, terrorist attacks and all the other stuff... generally stop caring if it's not in the headlines.

This is some good news, nice to see the judge actually be sensible about this rather than the ‘all bullies must die’ attitude :)

Madness. The law here should be absolute.

From the BBC article:
"We are good owners and I think that's what it takes to look after a good dog.

"I think Havana wouldn't do that [attack a human adult or child]."

You think? That's really reassuring.

Some of those are also living with young children.

I hope all involved don't live to regret these choices if it all goes wrong. Just watching from a distance and imagining what could happen is haunting enough, having seen videos of what these dogs can do to a grown man.

We all hope they don’t regret their choices, but the amount of XL bully attacks compared to the XL bully population still shows the likelihood of attacks is very small, something like a 0.05% chance

I wouldn't want the dogs destroyed. That's too far.
The result is correct Imo.

Although I do think the breed should go (no more breeding full stop) taking someone's dog away is just too cruel.
