Donald Trump

Except they didn't, because that's not how our political system works, and everyone knows this.

Well, they did. Over 50% of the votes went to labour, green, lib dem and SNP.

I know the facts and numbers are all very inconvenient in disproving everyone's claim that Trump and Brexit etc are so popular, but the numbers dont lie.

This country is still heavily split on Brexit and Trump has NEVER, on any election or aggregated opinion poll shown he supports the majority support of the USA population. Exactly the opposite is true.

People on here try to make out that support for progressive policies , staying in the eu, opposition to Trump etc is some minority, echo chambered sentiment. Nothing could be further from the truth In reality.

Unfortunately, objective reality isn't very popular with some...

Almost certainly lost a significant amount of support. The only people left supporting him are the hardcore base who wont vote for any other party regardless.

Predict record voter turn out and landslide loss for Trump.

Yeh if people actually turn up and vote and there is a record turn out, he is toast .

I wouldn't want to bet on it either as he clearly has die hard base of about 40% that will be with him whatever happens.

What i am certain of, is that it wont be a "landslide". Its likely he will lose the popular vote again as well. Do you think he has GAINED much support over his term?
The thing is, i have a skewed view i suppose. One of my brothers lives in the US, my other Canada but with family on his fiances side US based so spends a lot of time there and has a lot of US influence. Both of them love Trump, and only ever say good things and generally indicate that everyone that they work with have a very positive view of him and his policy of putting america first...you'd think that everyone was a Republican. Much as almost everyone i know in this country would generally only ever vote conservative (i know of a few who say that they voted LD as a Brexit protest) which skews my view and leads to me not be surprised at all when the right leaning parties win out.

The trouble is, he has alienated everyone else. He hasn't made any effort to win over any democrats. He denigrates anyone who doesnt bow before him.

He no doubt has that ~40% base. Beyond that, he isn't making any new friends...

But that's all completely irrelevant if the political system is not set up this way (which it isn't)

Like in any game, its all about playing within the rules as they are set up.
There is no point saying that people voted for a Brexit rethink when our voting system says that they did not. Its all about what actually counts, what drives the outcome.

I don't think you realise that most Americans are actually doing really good, America is doing great as a country, strong economy, lots of jobs, they're happy with the way he's handled foreign policy, he'll easily win.

That must be why his approval ratings are so huge, best ever apparently.

Or that millions don't have health insurance, or that millions have multiple jobs just to get food on the table, or that some states have 4 day school weeks, or that half the workforce earn <$30k a year, or that wealth inequality is continuing to increase, or that the 400 richest families paid as much tax as the bottom 50%, or that farm bankruptcies have shot up.....but other than that as Roar87 said - they're doing great.

I think the bigger problem is the quality of the candidates running against him - the only ones that seem to have broadly the kind of credentials needed are too unknown to stand a chance and most of the higher profile ones are unlikely to be voted in over Trump unless things change.

Andrew Yang seems pretty decent, they don't give him much airtime in the debates though.

US politicians do seem to be pretty dumb in general though, or at least come across that way. Lots more showmanship and plenty of virtue signalling - on the Republican side this seems to involve pandering to gun nuts and conspiracy theorists and on the democrat side this seems to involve pandering to SJWs/identity politics nutters.

This is the problem - any of the candidates that seem fairly decent and have a chance of standing out against Trump barely reach mainstream consciousness.

Tulsi Gabbard is another one, she's got a problem though re: previous LGBT comments (which she has apologised for). She is however someone who could take Republican or swing voters away from Trump.

Not content with turning the House into a kangaroo court Pelosi now wants to be able to rig the outcome at the Senate level before sending the articles of impeachment, between accusing people of wrongdoing to prevent them from becoming supreme court judges and now this impeachment charade the Democrats are doing a good job of turning the USA into a banana republic.

What a peach. Can't you please explain? And provide evidence.

Some people are poor yes, there are poor people all over the world, overall the country is doing well, wages have grown, the economy has grown. These are facts.

His tax cuts have increased wages for the lower income workers by a large margin also, that kind of stuff wins elections. $15 an hour posters up in McDonalds.

She wants to know the rules of the trial.

"she couldn’t select impeachment managers and advance the matter without more details about the Senate’s plans for a trial, which she has said should be conducted in a manner that she considers fair"
