Done something stupid on eBay

I can't see me losing money on this! If I get it compression tested that will tell me instantly if it's engine or starter

To be honest if you can't even read a HPI certificate properly I wouldn't trust your views on whether you'll lose money on a car you know nothing about.

There's no need to start insulting my reading of a website! I assumed by previous owners that ment how many it had been registered since new! Sure it's a common mistake mr perfect!

Even allowing for this example going down like a bomber over Berlin is there any underlying reason why the RX8 in general seems to be so cheap?

People simply don't want to buy them, they cost too much to run and have too many issues keeping them running.

This one for 2k seems like a bad idea, you could have got a full running one for 3.5k, does the 2005 fall into the higher taxband too? If so LOL!

Oddly enough 'Previous Owners' means the number of 'Previous Owners' and previous means 'Ones before'.

You don't need to be 'mr perfect' to know that, you just need to read English. I did explain this to you a bit more politely but you still didnt beleive me so thats why you got the sarcasm :p

This one for £2k seems like it would have to go on a career development course to even aspire to be a "bad idea".

However it just seems to me that even given that the RX-8 is an expensive car to run they do seem very cheap for the person who accepts the running costs?

Like 2k to sort the starting issue out? You never ever buy an RX8 regardless of it's age or service history without doing a compression check on the engine.

In some respects if you like how the engine drives it's a good car if you only do 5k - 10k a year.

No, not like £2k to sort out these issues. Bloody hell. Ive already said the car in question is what it is.

My point is simply that a good example still seems like a realitively cheap purchase for the type of car it is.

If you are in the market for a car that has running cost more than most then is it not a good idea?

Or lets switch the question - what type of person/budget warrents an Rx-8?

Hardly anyone - hence the price of them. If you can afford to be completely unconcerned by the ownership costs its likely youve got a tad more than £3k to spend on a car anyway.

This.

Also I know lots of you will say oh that's a myth but I've seen a few ads for the RX8 which state it's had an engine rebuild/new/refurbished engine put in lately.

Any reason for that or is it just coincidence?

In my 350Z thread the RX-8 was suggested as an alternative which i didnt really entertain for a number of reasons and i havent really looked at it in any great detail but it was enough to prompt the question in this thread.

Ignore the £3k price.

At the £10k level does the RX-8 offer anything over other cars that would be deemed a similar class?

Or to be more specific to me. Is there anything that a £10k RX-8 with associated running costs would offer over a 350z with associated running costs given the circumstances you replied to in the other thread i started?

Just for comparision purposes.

The RX8 is a better handling car than the 350Z and offers slightly more practicality.

Thats about it.

OK thanks.

Not that im being obsessive over my next car purchase or anything!!

No such thing as too much info and all that.....

Well, get it rebuilt and you've potentially grabbed yourself a mechanically mint RX-8 with a 2 year engine warranty for 4k ;). Not the end of the world....maybe.
