Done something stupid on eBay

By principal you mean the seller?
No, the buyer. In an auction you bid to buy not to change your mind or try and find a way of worming out of it.
If the buyer wasn't happy or confident about the description he should have asked more questions or steered clear.

If you think the seller is a chancer, don't bid.

Ah so you did mean PRINCIPLES not PRINCIPAL ;)

I do agree with what you say, but if you were in his position would you be prepared to go through with it? I wouldn't touch that thing with the longest of bargepoles.

I would quite happily walk away from a car purchase on eBay if I found the car not to be as described. However you can't really, in good conscience, do this here. The seller clearly described the fault.

The way I would look at it is that, if the rebuild costs £2.5k, you've got yourself a freshly rebuilt RX8 for £4550. I'm sure it will be great to drive and you'll have peace of mind if the work is done properly.

If it's any consolation, my RS6 is just about to cost me £5.4k :o.
