Done something stupid on eBay

Well, get it rebuilt and you've potentially grabbed yourself a mechanically mint RX-8 with a 2 year engine warranty for 4k ;). Not the end of the world....maybe.

Surely the seller (who just bought it a matter of weeks ago to make a profit and shaft his mate) would have thought the same?

And by virtue of selling it on ebay decided it wasnt viable for reasons unknown?

Maybe the previous owner had had it for a while already? Didn't want to sink 2k into it and was just wanted rid?

Point stands though, it could be a lemon with no easy path to roadworthiness!

The seller "bought this car from a mate who needed money"

In the world of the idiot that would be a selling point - Person B bought perfect car from Person A just "cos he needed the money".

In the world of reality why the hell would you shaft a mate for said perfect car and then sell it on straight away while admitting faults.

Not only does the car look like a ****, the seller does as well.

If my mate was in financial trouble my first thought would always be "asset strip" and "ebay" in the same sentence(!)

the guy is starting to get pretty arrogant with me now demanding the deposit now and that i go get the car today! when i clearly emailed saying if i won i would be able to collect for 2 weeks due to work commitments which he agreed to!

I'd run a mile from this, just say you've changed your mind. Everything indicates that it's going to be a nail - existing engine problem, no service history, only owned it for three weeks, very cheap and you haven't even looked at it let alone driven it. I just couldn't be bothered trying to get my money back if it was knackered, when i buy a car i just want things to work.

Did you agree that although you wouldn't pick it up for two weeks you also wouldn't leave a deposit? if you didn't I'd be asking for a deposit if I were the seller.

no, but i have said to him that in his advert it says he is expecting to get the V5 before the end of the auction which he still hasn't had, so i emailed saying im not going to allow any money to go to him until AT LEAST he can prove it is his car!

run away from this asap. The whole advert/seller contact smells far to iffy to me.

if my mate needed the cash that quick then why not use we buy any car to get him a quick fix. instead his mate brought it then 3 weeks later he sells it!!!

it just rings alarm bells to me

if you dont want it cancel the transaction and say sorry to the seller... if you feel bad bung him 50 / 100 as compo

This. Its a bit tight and you shouldn't have bid unless you were 100% on it but at the end of the day do you really want to hand over £2K on a car you don't actually want?

I've won ebay auctions for cars and decided afterwards I really shouldn't have - fortunately only RC cars :D

Nowhere in the auction does it say deposit required, so along with waiting for the genuine V5 (which I would insist upon arriving as a minimum) I would tell him tough luck, it isn't taxed and it is on road, he is crapping heimself I would imagine :D

Didn't these come with an 8yr engine warranty? (100,000 mile)?

Yes but only if it's serviced when it should be by Mazda!

How aggressive is he being? If he's getting fairly aggressive and seems a bit dum I'd just reply saying you're being sent to prison and you no longer need the car.
