DON'T BUY MSI THEY MIS-SOLD TOP SPEC GT SERIES LAPTOPS with MXM Graphics

ok update after call with Neil, it seems MSI are looking at improved pricing for me, i can't quote or promise yet as I haven't had the email but the prices range quoted on the phone seems "comparable to mxm upgrade"

so it seems we are almost there, they refuse to discuss a deal for the community I've tried my hardest, but if they are willing to budge, if you challenge them they should budge also.

for me i choose MSI and a Laptop over other brands and a desktop due to MSI's "world first" "msi exclusive" mxm gpu upgrade. that may be a factor as thrugh their advertising I choose an MSI product where I wouldn't have choosen MSI or a laptop i would have went with brands I usually go for and built a desktop.

I'll post updates of final offer, neil said I can post it, so you can hopefully see for yourself what is possible, IF you be nice, follow the rules and know your consumer rights and how customer service should work.

funny tho i logged the ombudsman case today and no response there yet (also sent email to the retailer that sold/advertised this product) and I get a sniff of improved pricing straight away.

I'm assuming if enough cases are logged, we will ALL get a better deal, be happy with our MSI product and continue to support MSI IF they turn this into a win for us.

a good customer service interaction can be worth a 2 million advertising campaign in my eyes, so if they deal with this right it could secure future business (asus member for example, oh hey look MSI dealt with that fair and square, they are reputable and true to their word, i might consider a MSI product for my next laptop!)

edit: it looks like you might need to call up and stick the boot in a little to get some wiggle room in the prices, i can't do this for you as they won't talk to another customer about a product u bought etc, however I beleive you can appoint a representative for yourself in this case if you are shy/unsure what to say.

What prices were passed verbally?

So to get a price based on MSI's own announcement of this program we need to further inconvenience ourselves? Surely MSI can just do what they said?

Call who on what number?

Still no email offer for me.

Neil at MSI provided his email earlier in this thread, drop him an email and ask for a contact number?

....contact me directly ... neilreid (nospaces) at msi (dot) com

Yeah, still no offer here either.

Misjah chill yourself deals are coming just dont except the first offer its terrible negotiated nicely but firmly and you will get what you need but only if you play by thw rules.

Msi clearly want to make up for this, ive not accepted the offer yet as I need to clarify some stuff but a 1070 for 600 ish over my original 1060 for 1k its a much improved offer to say the least....

MSI are ****ing stupid. The GT72VR is a downgrade from the GT72 2QE. This is not as close to current spec, any of the GT73VR that has the raid ability and MUX switch that your present GT72 2QE has.

Ask them which GT73VR they will let you have without increasing what you have to pay, as the GT73VR is the best feature match.

Edit: Wow, MSI don't even know which model spec or model number to quote. They quoted the GTX 1060 SKU with a GTX 1070 Yet more MSI Notebook UK incompetence.

MSI GT72VR 6RD(Dominator)-037UK

tropicola, I would would also explain that you won't accept paying SRP as you are not dealing with a retailer, but the manufacturer.

Relax he made a typo he had a meeting after work and sent me this in the evening he was probably tired.

As o said not accepted as I need the modep clarifying

And tbh I mostly care about a gpu upgrade as promised but ill get back to you

No MUX switch = Optimus automatically or could the laptop be working with only 1 graphic all the time ? I do not like Optimus...

Tropicola, the offer you have is kind of equivalent to the one I received directly. You pay 625 pounds to have the same new laptop as mine, coming from a more performing laptop (980m against 970m and some other differences) than mine...the offer is 880 pounds for me, wanting the same laptop and coming from a GT72 Basic config with 970m.

Really really equivalent offers, still quite far from a sale of your old 980m second hand and a new 1070.

Correct. I hope you see the value of MUX now mate.

Really really equivalent offers, still quite far from a sale of your old 980m second hand and a new 1070.

No one should be thinking of a resale value on their notebooks, this is an alternative to the advertised MXM upgrade. If MSI hadn't have screwed up no one would have sold their notebook. MSI is making us sell them our notebooks as it is more profitable to them than purely running this program at a cost of solely the GPU upgrade.

It stinks.

As I said let me clarify model pls

I habent accepted

And note my 980m is the 4gb version 8gb ram and 128ssd 1tb vllowest spec 980 laptop I think?

Also its not far off

1070 is like what 600 UK shipping and labour to upgrade ur card like what 700 or so minus 300ish for gfx is 400 so we are a lot closer here but wait for further updates

tropicola, I have exactly the same GT72 as you.

This is the offer I received back in October before the official program had been launched:
MuC89eC.png

So now with the official program launched and after haggling, they still want to charge you a quid more than I found insulting months ago (I think you offer should have been the GT72VR 6RE(Dominator Pro)-234UK).

Yes, it may be the lowest specced GT72 with GTX 980M, so they should let us upgrade to the lowest specced GT73VR for a cost comparable to previous MXM upgrades.

GT72 2QE 682UK was £1,499 SRP at launch.

I used waybackmachine to check.

Yeah problem is that it is not really comparable to mine as it has been launched after. I paid 1699 for the same config apart 970m 6gb. I'm basing my estimation on the fact that the 980m at the time of the laucnh of mine were at least 200-300 pounds more than mine

We need to stop looking at what our machines cost and focus on the cost of the MXM upgrades.

Agreed spoke to Neil he is going to give me other options and made him aware of this typo.

We also need to stop focusing on performance gains as they didnt promise you that what they promised is a gpu upgrade to 10x so as long as they fulfill that at a MXM uograde eqiv price they are covered
