I just got an awesome email of Neil, I`m going to pay MSI tonight.
Then send them an email, they haven't asked for monies yet, but it will only speed things up.

Fantastic news and credit to Neil probably the only msi rep actually doing anything also big credit to niraj he is also very helpful

Yeah, it's just £290, that's what it says in the agreement I signed.
I think Neil is doing a pretty good job and he has been very apologetic over the delay
So I'm happy with the outcome, now it's just the waiting game.

To everyone except Neo (nothing against you fella, enjoy your new machine).

If you paid by credit card for your notebook from MSI you can instigate a charge back with the credit card company as the notebook in question was mis-sold.

wayback machine will let you look at historic webpages on most of the MSI resellers sites.

https://archive.org/web/

Enter the url of the reseller you purchased from and it will provide with a selection of dates where they have archived that site. You can then click through the site to find your notebook and see if they advertised as having 'upgradable MXM gpu's' if it does go to your credit card company and advise them you were missold and provide a link to wayback machines archive.

If you are already involved in the trade-in program I highly recommend you hang fire and check the above. Which has best value to you, a full refund or a trade-in that costs more than an actual MXM upgrade?

Resellers will be pretty quick to claim this back from MSI.

Worst case solution, full refund. Best case, we hold MSI to their word and they provide the upgrade at costs comparable to previous MXM upgrades, like they have with Neo.

If anyone needs any assistance finding the historic advertising I am always willing to help, drop me an email at msimxmshame[at]gmail[.]com

I ask that you share the above information as widely as you can, if you see an MSI promo on a website where you can leave a comment, do so and point to this thread.

MSI HAS IGNORED IT'S OWN STATEMENTS, MSI HAS IGNORED US THEIR CUSTOMERS, THEY PUT PROFIT AHEAD OF US. TIME TO TAKE IT BACK.

Prepared statement for sharing:

MSI mis-sold the GT72/S and GT80/S claiming they had upgradable GPU/s. This has been demonstrated not to be the case. If you paid for your GT72/S or GT80/S with a credit card you can arrange a charge back with your credit card company. You will need to demonstrate that the reseller you used advertised the MXM upgradability. This is a relatively straightforwards procedure using the wayback machine - https://archive.org/web/ all you need to do is enter the url or the reseller that you bought your GT from and then find the archive for the site closest to when you purchased your notebook, then click through to find your specific model and check if they advertised MXM upgradability. If you need any assistance finding this information feel free to get in touch: msimxmshame[at]gmail[.]com

tbh man, if i paid by CC first thing i would have done lmao

i think from now on, any big purchase i'm going to put it on the card and pay it off straight away, that way i have the protection a credit card gives.

if you ring your bank they are like LOL you sent a payment, gg good luck with that

edit:

have you spoken to OCUK about this advice btw? considering they probably some some of these machines and your advising them to chargeback on their own website

think of the smaller resellers, this could hurt their business sure it forces MSI's hands but it's unfair that MSI wil then screw its resellers over as well as customers

I hear you.

If you could share the message. Out of all the GT customers affected only 18 have come forwards, we should make the rest aware!

6 years from purchase is the deadline, but lets get some traction. :)

go find those forums then without the MSI trade in link and reference this thread, problem solved

im sure if hundreds of customers started emailing, thats much better to get them to act instead of ****ing everyone of with chargebacks

they would take it more serious if 250+ customers started emailing them....

Just imagine 100 customers doing charge backs at £1-3.5K per hit.

MSI Corp shows disregard for it's customers. Take your money back and spend it elsewhere.

yup but that harms the retailers short term, msi longterm

did you pay by cc?

Yes I paid by credit card.

It doesn't put any pressure on the retailer they knock it straight back to MSI.

If anything it doubles the value of the message, 1, customers are upset with MSI, 2, retailers are upset with MSI for upsetting their customers.

It only adds power to our concern.

Has anybody gone back to the original retailer under the consumer rights act of 2015 whereby the product you buy after oct 2015 must be as described.

I would say if the product is described as upgradable and it isn't then this isn't as described.

Suppose the sticking point here is that they are are offering an upgrade but in reality the product you bought is not as described.

When I initially looked into the matter this was the first thing I considered, but not all reseller used the upgradability for every model of the GT's that are affected. That was purely MSI's doing.

Tropicola, they are legally obliged to resolve the issue.

Neo had all damage charges removed from his trade-in costs.

MSI has no reason not to apply this to any other customer affected.

Its all here and done now, I think MiSJAH is correct within reason as tropicola also had his damage fees dropped. Oh well supper happy, as said in another forum. It cost me £310 in total, £290 for the trade in and £15 transfer fees as its an international account number and £5 for it to clear today rather than 3-5 days.

Just wondering, where is Nat based ?
I think all her emails seem to be sent around midnight, though they could just be on the night-shift.

UK I believe. She really puts in the hours. I've had emails from her in the early hours. That sort of willingness and effort makes the matter less MSI Notebook UK to blame and more MSI Corp.

Wow, that's some dedication to her job, I think MSI UK are just amazing.
Its generally been a pretty good experience with them and next computer I`ll get the special edition Dragon, if they do one. Doubt Ill need anything for a couple of years now.

The only pain is the amount of time it has taken, it could have been faster.

I do wonder why others got less of a deal as me, I guess you could ask Neil or Nat politely and see what they say. They should know who Neo2016 is.

All done for me too got invoice and email confirmation should receive a tracking number soon. Weirdly it's DHL and it says dispatching from the UK is it possible my laptop is already in the country ?
