DON'T BUY MSI THEY MIS-SOLD TOP SPEC GT SERIES LAPTOPS with MXM Graphics

I think we know why mate, play nice and we might get somewhere.

Had a chat with Neil seems alright, remember they are people just like us and it's MSI the COMPANY not the workers that have f-d up here lets try and refrain from taking our frustration out on them.

Anyway, after a 30 min chat making them aware I wasn't happy "they are going to see what they can do"

tbh here they are telling me a few have accepted the offer, perhaps more money than sense, but they seem happy with seeing it as a resolution with only a small amount of people accepting the deal which is wrong, deal needs to be correct for all!

I suggest we pool together, compare deals and hold out for the best GROUP solution, thats how they get it done in the USA.

I would plead with every MSI laptop owner affected to HOLD OUT ON ANY DEAL REMEMBER YOU HAVE UNTIL 31st to DECIDE!

He didnt promise but he will see what he can do, there MUST be room for improvement here as it's clear previous MXM upgrades (minus resale value of card) wasn;t looked at here, he is going to try and provide some numbers tomorrow (taiwan is asleep right now apparently).

tbc.....

Did Neil tell you which previous MXM upgrade the announcement was based upon?

UK Pascal Trade-Upgrade Program said:
It's imperative that you register your interest before the 31st of December.

MSI offer email said:
8) Once you accept the offer of the upgrade program, you will have 2 weeks to arrange the collection. After this period, the offer will no longer be valid.

There has been no published date as to when we must accept the offer, only a date to register interest by and a time period to submit our notebooks once we have accepted the offer.

Don't let MSI claim they have published a date that we must accept an offer by.

@Neil/Loki, feel free to email me if this is incorrect, demonstrating where exactly MSI have said we have a time limit to accept the offer.

Edit: Can anyone understand this
MSI offer email said:
The Trade-in program in offering now in UK and the deadline of the inquiry will be on 31st Dec.

........Still waiting for my offer......

I really cannot believe that such a large company can act with such little integrity.

Short term gain, long term loss.

**** MSI.

do you think they are concluding the deal before jan for this reason;

oh and 1 last thing. the 7th generation i7 cpu's nicknamed kaby lake are due in January. the trade up option program is still only going to be giving us the 6th generation with the laptops in january

otherwise they would probably have to do a deal with the more expensive 7th gen losing them even more $$?

They are not losing money on the 6th gen, they won't lose money on the 7th gen, they'd just hike the trade in price.

***I'm guessing, our values for existing notebooks is based on an assumed resale value in a developing area.***

**** off please. I cannot believe it, you are on your little crusade so everybody should follow you blindly , It is like a religion, no room for freedom.

You are so wrong on so much things...You are certainly a Raid1 on your Notebook ? Mouaaaaaaah..It is to protect all the games you are playing at ?...Your little benchmark with your own PC that has its own installation ? You have no clue how we do a proper benchmark as I explained, Desktop or notebook is not an argument, Haswell against Skylake is the argument. All these Benchmark software are in general not consistent, depending too much how your PC is running. you have to do benchmark on several software, a proper benchmark as I explained.

G-Sync or PCI-e Is not balancing your so-called loss of features ?

Much more people than you think are kind of OK with the deal, funny you are saying this as you are participating to a thread on another forum where there is kind of happy people about the deal...liar.

What are you looking for ? MSI to lick your feet ? Won't happen, it is business, they know they have done a mistake, they will obviously try to come out with the less damages and loss of money possible, not fair on many perspective but not a first time. You have money and time to sue them, go on do it but please do not try to force on me your crusade and to end up almost insulting me. You see, if you would have been a bit nicer and smarter, I would even participated to your crusade, I was ready to give money..Not very surprising that MSI is blocking you from everywhere seeing how you react.

A last thing : you had your computer at a very good price (1399), fully normal that MSI si taking in account the price you have your computer at, same case as tropicola, what is important is the money you have already gave to MSI, I gave much more than you so I have a better discount.

Actually I had my computer for £1,100.

But what's that got to do with a trade-upgrade, as MSI announced that costs a comparable amount to previous MXM upgrades.

I'm all for personal freedom, but you compared desktop cpus, I compared the actual cpus relevant to this situation. I then showed a demonstrative example of how there is little difference. You showed an article about desktop cpus, different wattage, different cooling environment, therefore different headroom (but you know all of this working in IT).

I asked you to demonstrate the benefits in gaming using PCIe SSD's over SATA, you didn't.

Feel to explain your opinion of a proper benchmark for a gaming laptop, I am open to the challenge. Actual CPU vs CPU comparison - http://processors.specout.com/compare/1798-1893/Intel-Core-i7-4720HQ-vs-Intel-Core-i7-6700HQ

My PC has it's own installation, what does that even mean? You work it IT, feel free to explain what you mean by this?

(To be fair I know, but explain it anyway. Oh, the laptop I compared with in the benchmark has exactly the same installation).

Thinking you have the measure of someones intelligence by their forum posts just demonstrates your naivety.

I said you were the only person in "this thread" that thought this was a fair offer. In the NBR thread about 10-15 people have accepted the offers made.

I wonder what that is as a percentage of those involved in the upgrade program?

G-Sync demonstrates it's capabilities at low (25-35) fps, I don't think there is much a GTX 1070 will require it for at 1080p. I even had G-Sync on this PC for a while and the benefit was barely noticeable (if you don't understand how you can have g-sync on a non-g-sync pc, not my problem ;) ).

PCIe, well raided sata SSD loads everything PDQ, I don't need PCIe.

I don't need a new notebook, I want a better GPU for gaming. I bought this PC because the manufacturer advertised that the GPU's were upgradable.

I want a cost comparable way to upgrade to GTX 1070/1080 as an alternative for the lack of physical MXM card with the features I currently have. I don't want to pay for hardware I do not require, why would I?

I want MSI to stick to their word and provide this at a cost comparable to previous MXM upgrades.

Merry Christmas anyway bro, life's just to short to fall out with someone that has been treated this badly by MSI too. :)

the prices range quoted on the phone seems "comparable to mxm upgrade"

What prices were passed verbally?

edit: it looks like you might need to call up and stick the boot in a little to get some wiggle room in the prices, i can't do this for you as they won't talk to another customer about a product u bought etc, however I beleive you can appoint a representative for yourself in this case if you are shy/unsure what to say.

So to get a price based on MSI's own announcement of this program we need to further inconvenience ourselves? Surely MSI can just do what they said?

Call who on what number?

Still no email offer for me.

Neil at MSI provided his email earlier in this thread, drop him an email and ask for a contact number?

....contact me directly ... neilreid (nospaces) at msi (dot) com

Yeah, still no offer here either.

MSI are ****ing stupid. The GT72VR is a downgrade from the GT72 2QE. This is not as close to current spec, any of the GT73VR that has the raid ability and MUX switch that your present GT72 2QE has.

Ask them which GT73VR they will let you have without increasing what you have to pay, as the GT73VR is the best feature match.

Edit: Wow, MSI don't even know which model spec or model number to quote. They quoted the GTX 1060 SKU with a GTX 1070 Yet more MSI Notebook UK incompetence.

MSI GT72VR 6RD(Dominator)-037UK
9S7-178511-037

Intel Core i7-6700HQ Quad Core Processor
17.3" Full HD IPS Screen
Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit
16GB DDR4 RAM
256GB SSD + 1000GB 7200RPM HDD
Blu-Ray Writer
Dedicated GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Graphics
USB3 | HDMI | Bluetooth | DisplayPort
Backlit Keyboard

£1,649.97

tropicola, I would would also explain that you won't accept paying SRP as you are not dealing with a retailer, but the manufacturer.

No MUX switch = Optimus automatically or could the laptop be working with only 1 graphic all the time ? I do not like Optimus...

Correct. I hope you see the value of MUX now mate.

Really really equivalent offers, still quite far from a sale of your old 980m second hand and a new 1070.

No one should be thinking of a resale value on their notebooks, this is an alternative to the advertised MXM upgrade. If MSI hadn't have screwed up no one would have sold their notebook. MSI is making us sell them our notebooks as it is more profitable to them than purely running this program at a cost of solely the GPU upgrade.

It stinks.

tropicola, I have exactly the same GT72 as you.

This is the offer I received back in October before the official program had been launched:
MuC89eC.png

So now with the official program launched and after haggling, they still want to charge you a quid more than I found insulting months ago (I think you offer should have been the GT72VR 6RE(Dominator Pro)-234UK).

Yes, it may be the lowest specced GT72 with GTX 980M, so they should let us upgrade to the lowest specced GT73VR for a cost comparable to previous MXM upgrades.

I emailed all of my details to Neil yesterday. Again he asked my purchase price, why on earth do they need that? They are advertising this program at being comparable in cost to previous mxm upgrades, they've never asked the purchase price when I have bought MXM cards in the past.

Did anyone get a response from MSI as to why they are quoting retail prices when we are purchasing direct from the manufacturer and retail are not involved in any way?

Well Christmas bonus is here.

MSI you have opportunity to get your hands on it.

Fix this appalling mess, give us something that is actually comparable in cost to previous MXM upgrades (tell us which previous upgrade too).

Or should I go to the competition? There's some lovely new notebooks on the market.

Edit: OK, I'm looking around and have no idea really. Someone help me out, I want a 15.6 - 17.3 IPS 120Hz, GTX 1070, option to raid SSD's, good looks. Budget upto £2.5k but prefer closer to £2k. Thanks.

Aorus X5 or X7. I was looking for similar specs to what you are looking for. I've been using my Aorus X5 for a a few weeks and I have to say, it is pretty beastly. Oh and the laptops are thin to port around with you.
There really isn't anything that can come close to the specs Aorus/Gigabyte are offering. Price... £2100-£2500

Aorus X7 V6 CF1

Overclockers don't have the 120hz Version of the X5 but You can ask if they are getting them in stock or not.

Thanks man, will take a look. Also, I've started a thread for my requirement over here. So this thread doesn't go off topic from this ridiculous situation with MSI.

update; still awaiting Neil to confirm the deal or not today, he is off out of the country from tomorrow and promise to try and have a resolution/deal by Friday.

let see....

left a voicemail
left an email
sent a text message

not answer yet so im not holding my breath.

I take that back just had an email saying he has good news callback at 5...... The end is near!

Yeah, Neil took all my details again on Tuesday and said he'd get back to me by today. I don't really expect anything....from MSI anymore.

On a brighter note, let's see how Aorus do.

Just ordered this - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/aoru...l-core-i7-6820hk-gaming-laptop-lt-02e-au.html

The Owners thread has a lot of people complaining about their notebooks and the issues surrounding them, some RMAing others returning for a refund. This is very sad all round.

Asking nicely,

Please can we stay on topic?

And I'm still waiting for my offer. :(

Hahahahahahahaha.

So I received my offer today:

HrmRNvel.png
http://imgur.com/a/083hN

In 13 months my GT72 2QE has been devalued by only £150!

If anyone else has received their offer and they have devalued your notebook by more over a shorter time frame let me know (I'll forwards my offer to you if need by and you can ask MSI what the f they are playing at).

However, to upgrade to a notebook with comparable features to my GT72 2QE would be GT73VR 6RF(Titan Pro)-240UK or -220UK, as they are not giving me the option of a GT73VR with a GTX 1070.

So either of those notebooks would cost me £1,150, I wonder which previous MXM upgrade this is comparable to?
