Don't Look Up (2021)

Watching the president and her son act that way was so cringeworthy. Sure we had trump in that office for a while, but surely even he would not react that way to such news?

Exactly how Trump reacted to Covid and Climate Change - head in the sand.

With that cast I could easily have seen this in the cinema. Thankfully it was Netflix so after 30 minutes I could back out without having to leave a cinema for the first time in years. I’d love to see the Netflix stats for people that didn’t get halfway through this awful film.

Watched about 15-20 minutes and turned it off. What is up with this new trend of adults acting like children? Watching the president and her son act that way was so cringeworthy. Sure we had trump in that office for a while, but surely even he would not react that way to such news? Just turned it off after that.
that's how most adults are these days though professionalism is pretty much dead.

life became "hello!" magazine or something...... it's all people are interested in celebrity culture or becoming a celebrity..

look all the morons watching love island type trash.... why does it matter how "famous person" is dating? who gives a crap about their lives?
it's just the modern version of curtain twitcting people should grow up and get a life.....

seeing adults in heir 30s acting like teenage school children is ridiculous.

professionalism ? long gone.... why do you think so many 999 service workers are faffing around making tik tok videos and trying to get famous? why are cops sat in a cop car in a supermarket snogging for an hour but it's okay they were off duty so don't get sacked or a warning.....

during the arena bombing weren't 2 people on massive break getting a kebab?

the worlds gone to crap.....

I was in the hospital yesterday and some security guard was off duty.. he spent 15minutes talking to some receptionist lady about his break, going home for dinner, nipping to argos etc....
she was supposed to be working and there's about 30 of us sat in the corridor listening to it...

If I was his boss I'd ask what the hell he thinks he's doing having a natter on his break infront of 30 patients with someone whos supposed to be working.....

We watched and it was up and down, it’s rare to get a decent American satire so wasn’t surprised. Lots of comment on listen to the experts (I wonder why that’s apt :D). Still the underlying message still holds water in many current issues (both here and in the US), do not rely on politics, billionaires or social media to do anything material for you. It was probably 20 mins too long.

A nice little film, quite cringy in places (all intended) and quite poignant in others. Made me a laugh a few times as well.

Loved The Big Short, but really couldn't get in to this. Gave it half an hour and just just couldn't buy into the premise, despite the whole point of it being a satirical take. Struggled to find it funny, because the premise was so absurd. Its trying to be satirical but ends up just being silly in my opinion.

If you think the premise was absurd then you should take note of this sort of comment;
I thought it was on point, politics interfering with science is quite timely.
We've had almost two years of politics interfering with science now with regards to COVID. We're pretty well insulated from it in the UK but in places like the US I've heard some insane stories of every day people refusing to wear masks, get vaccinated etc. I think the premise of this film is absolutely believable, especially when you take into account the religious zealots that will come out from the woodwork when you start talking about an "extinction level event" !!

I also thought it was a take on Covid and the conspiracy theorists but somebody also pointed out it could be Climate Change.
To say the premise is absurd is absurd because we're seeing it in action.

I thought it was about mobile phones and people being glued to the screens and celebrity culture.

pretty sure the clue is in the name, even the president in the movie is obsessed with celebrity.

be a sheep and don't think for your self, the asteroids not there cos no one told you it was yet. don't look up with your own eyes though and see it.

it's only real when it's on the screen of your phone

The writer/Director said "I think it's not crazy to say that maybe that's part of the reason we're not taking the collapse of the livable atmosphere seriously"
