Don't see many cars with Factory fitted sunroofs

Proper climate control is a set once and forget system .

What you seem to be forgetting is that some people (like myself) simply do not like climate control.

Some days I feel hot, some other days I feel cold, I find it far more comfortable to turn the knob and adjust the temperate to my preference when I want to, especially how I like to have my window down when driving for the vast majority of time.

I dare say CC systems aren't too brilliant if you like to have the window down as well, that's why I hit the 'off' button.

Or don't know how to use it or have never used a proper system.

I completely agree. Thankfully, my climate control system accomodates this desire perfectly. If I want insta-hot, it will give me that. If I want to chill myself, it'll give me that.

I can and often do have the window down with absolutely zero ill effects. I've no idea if it does but I wouldn't be suprised if opening a window prevents the system from over-compensating for the temp change :)

It's all about a) Having a decent system and b) knowing how to use it.

Once you've got those two nailed, you'll never want to be without it.

'Using it properly' I thought it was supposed to be 'set and forget'? One day I will find 21c comfortable, the next I won't. There's my issue with CC. I think it is much easier to turn a knob and get the cold/hot that you want rather than waiting for the system to sort out a cabin temp that you might not actually want on that particular day.

Can't ever see the day were it is minus 2c outside and I'd be happy with having the cabin temp set at 'just; 21c. I'd want it to be cracked to full hot. Likewise if it was 30c outside. Full cold thank you very much.

This is what I just don't get. In practice the systems just dont work the way you seem to think they do.

Last year when it was -5 outside my CC was set to 21c. Today it was 18c outside and my CC was set to 21c.

On both occasions I made the same 5 mile trip into town. Last year it spent the entire trip blowing toasty hot air at me. It was lovely. Today it spent the entire trip blowing nice cold air at me. It was lovely. Yet on both occasions the temperature was set to the same 21c...

You don't need to go around changing it all the time. Thats the point. If you want to vary the vent temperature to suit how you are feeling then leave the climate control panel alone and just use the little wheel to override it for a bit.

please tell me how, without changing temp

E.g. I want hot air to dry my feet off after walking in a field for 6 hours...

What a stupid question.

Of course you'd have to change the temp, as you would with a manual heater.

With climate control you get the best of both worlds. You can have auto and the car compensates and adjusts to keep the car at requested temp regardless of outside or you can disable it and use it in a manual way.

Use the hot/cold wheel below the vent. The preset temperature on the climate control remains the same.

It only does the face level vents but given I've never wanted to dry my feet with my car thats not proved much of a limitation :p

What a stupid question.

Of course you'd have to change the temp

Only with some systems.

I love my CC!
As Foxy says, it just works. My misses likes it a little warmer than me, so dual zone is absolutely perfect.
I just set it to Auto, select the temp and it just does every thing else.

oh yea, and I have a sunroof, which is nice and sunny!!

My parents regard a sunroof as a must have. I couldn't believe the lack of small cars that even had it as an option. They ended up getting a Hyundai I10.

I have to say, i really like a sunroof... but so few have them.

Anytime i check the BMW auc site, i search for cars with, but its usually around 5% or something

4th post in this thread details an E36 with both, yet he seemingly ignored that.

And you've seemingly ignored the fact that I went on to mention that it both could be speced, at considerable cost and usually wasn't?

People here need to learn to read. At no point did I say that no E36 exists without a sunroof and A/C.

BMW Sunroofs. Serious business.

:p

I generally don't like be condescended to and treated as if I'm some sort of muppet. His comment grated me a tiny bit :).

Edit: How on earth was that a personal attack, whilst 'lol, another Joshy story' isn't!?

I've never really understood the benefits of sunroofs - had a couple of cars with them, rarely used them. Much prefer aircon & climate control.

One thing I do find odd - climate control on modern BMWs. They're crap. What's the point of having a temperature controlled climate where you can also have different temperature air coming in through the manual control fo some random wheel in the middle of the dash.

Set temp at 20 deg, but then adjust temp by changing the mix of hot/external air.

It doesn't make any sense.

If I set it to 20deg I want the cabin at 20deg surely?
