I'm yet to play it still. There's such a fine line between getting oldschool into newschool that many games just don't deliver despite being so close. For me 2016 was a 9/10, i replayed it many times.

Metal: Hellsinger.

It’s a rhythm shooter set to a heavy metal sound track. Normally I have no interest in anything rhythm-based, but this had me captivated from beginning to end, and actually made me strive to her high in the score boards.

BPM is also worth a look but it’s atrociously hard, i’ve never completed it.

I finally got through to the end and did the final boss, after almost three years. The game does improve - the first two or three levels are slow but once you unlock the ballista, chaingun, double barreled shotty and some upgrades the fun really moves up a notch.

Having said that - I do still prefer Doom 2016. I still don't like the chainsaw mechanic. Grenades are a complete waste of time. Way way way too many upgrade trees for various things. And the marauder was just a complete let-down given how hard he was hyped. The gladiator and maykr fights were ok but the icon of sin was a mess, it's just a messy survival fight, trying to figure out which part is still alive whilst you're being assaulted with colours from everywhere.

I'm not sure I have any inkling to replay it or bother collecting things, which is a shame as I still drop into 2016 from time to time.

I'm wavering around a 6/10, whilst i'd consider 2016 an 8/10.

But, at least I got it done!

Finally got around to playing this yesterday, had it for a while but was on Xbox app (freebie from Prime) so I'd forgot about it tbh, think I'm over half way through now and honestly surprised with how well it holds up looks wise and to see a game this optimized is a pleasant change. Soundtrack is good but it's not hitting as hard for me as the original one did.

Had to swap the suit back to the standard one though as it really pulls you out of the campaign cut scenes when your a unicorn.

Same, I didn't finish the last one, but not for not enjoying it. Just got stuck, stubbornly at a too hard difficulty. Would take me too long to get the muscle memory back to be quick enough to handle it all if I hadn't played for a while.

Want to finish it before Dark Ages comes out...

I started both DLCs with the impending release of Dark Ages, and for a while was too stubborn to drop the difficulty. In the end I just stuck it on easy to whip through it and get it done. Less "I'm too young to die" and more "I'm too old not to".

I think it was the second DLC, final boss sequence that had me nearly chucking my rig out of the window - so frustrating... I was even questioning my game playing future at one stage

I've played Doom 2016 reboot but yet to play DE. Very excited about the upcoming Doom: The Dark Ages as well, the trailer made it look awesome. But I'd like to play DE first I think

I got stuck/couldn't do the jumps got bored of this, but fancy giving it another go - what advice can you give me to get through it?

I loved the first one, want to play the new one, but i'm going to wait for a new card and drivers that work before I do that...

I haven't looked it up but there will be a way to activate noclip so you can float through the jumps. Obviously omgwtfhax etc... but it's single player and will get you through it so why not. Alternatively you could youtube it to watch all the cut scenes so you at least get the story if that's the important bit.

I might just google up a complete play through. The most annoying thing is not knowing if I just haven't made the jump, OR if the jump is just impossible

Preferring the Dark Ages so far. Tighter story, none of the acrobatic nonsense that slows down the pace, bigger set pieces, more strategy options, more varied gameplay.
