Doom - The Dark Ages (2025)

I loved Doom 2016. I got about 1/4 of the way through Eternal before I stopped because of all the Denuvo controversy and never started back up. I do remember not really liking the platforming, nor the way the ammo worked with the glory kills almost being a requirement to get more ammo.

This....looks a bit more of the same as Eternal, plus some gimmicks that don't seem all that great. The mecha part had no weight, all the enemies and yourself practically moved at normal speed, so what's the point of it other than "omg bigger = better le epic"? And the shield...hmm. I'm sceptical.

Wasn't there a bit with a tank in Quake 4...or a giant mech suit or something? Been a while :)

There probably was, been so long since I played that. But I mean the general game play style. ID described the Doom Slayer as a tank, holding your ground, blocking fire with the shield.

Same here, when I first saw trailers for Doom 2016 I thought it looked awesome and then the trailers for Eternal looked great with all the maneuverabilty, jumping through the air, constantly moving etc but this just looked kinda meh with the shield. Hopefully I'm wrong but with £70 entry price then can get ****** at launch.

Missed that, sorry. Yeah I get what you mean. I wasn't even that good at bouncing around off walls and stuff, the timed jumping eventually stopped me for finishing Eternal, I'll be happy if they tone it down a bit, but I guess that won't be for everyone now :)

Eternal was great once you got the combat loop figured out, and the absurd agility was something else. I'm less keen on the grounded, no dash preview of Dark Ages I've seen thus far.
Hope to be pleasantly surprised :)

I liked the last games mechanics with the high mobility and having to use the right weapons and move againsts the different enemies etc.
This game looks great visually but looks boring af and too easy with the invincible shield and parry system. Hope im wrong though as i like the series. Wont be paying £70 either.

I much preferred 2016 over Eternal, hopefully Dark Ages will be good. I'm pretty sad they got rid of the glory kills, though.

I really liked 2016 but I think I liked the technicality of Eternal more, you really had to know what you were doing with the mechanics so I guess it didn't entirely fit into the framework of the series as most people had probably been expecting a mindless shooter.

Not sure what to make of this one yet but what I'm sure about is that the pricing is bonkers and it's 100% Gamepass material for me from what I've seen so far.
