Dover Ferry Queues

Good God no, I am an Englishman, we have a deep rooted suspicion of *all* foreigners, the French just justified it in this one isolated incident :) My xenophobia is not solely caused by a minor Parisian altercation in the seventies. Nor is it totally wide sweeping, I feel I had a good rapport with one of our most Gallic late forum members.

I am also an Englishman, I'm not scared of other cultures and people who speak funny.

At least you recognise you suffer from Xenophobia, maybe you could try really really hard and try to stop it influencing you to make bad decisions :)

Excuse me, but the definition of xenophobia is not a fear of "other cultures" or those "who speak funny", you are judging me by the wrong criteria, the definition is:

"a dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries"

You should probably do one of those DNA tests to settle your mind. Might find out you're a Frenchman though.

I know I am trying to put a nice face on a rather unsavoury thing.

French don't reciprocate the lovely sentiment .. its the yanks & germans who visit SE UK more

Best idea heard on BBC - arrive early and sleep in car / car-park

Entirely self-inflicted - issue was all known and analysed in 2019 Maritime Economics Research Center Brexit Impacts on Ro-Ro Traffic and Logistics at Dover
• Massive queues (extending beyond the model border of 7km) will happen after Brexit, when checking time is doubled and no measures is taken. • Traffic congestion on A20 is much severer than A2. • Maximum delay of 4.5 hours is resulted for trucks, 2 hours for passenger cars, and 6 hours for coaches when checking time is doubled, even after all the non-port-related vehicles are removed and only 90% of port vehicles are retained. • Border control capacity is the main bottleneck and adding extra booths for border controls will significantly reduce traffic congestion. • Smoothing the traffic arrivals equally during the day can also improve the traffic condition.

....
Dover's importance • The strait between Dover and Calais is the narrowest part of the English Channel • Dover is the ninth largest UK port in terms of total cargo volume (26.2 million tons) in 2017 and the largest Ro-Ro port in Europe (Department for Transport 2018) • Dover handles £119 billion (17%) of the UK’s trade (Port of Dover 2019b) • Trade between Dover and Calais accounts for 23.7% of the UK’s major port traffic with the EU (Port Boulogne Calais 2018 and Department for Transport 2018)

That’s incorrect. I don’t know where you studied your Greek but it really means “a fear of strangers”.

Yeah, fear :D

ETA the real word that describes your definition apparently (and hugely ironically) comes from early French.

I'd actually laugh if he was actually part Nigerian or something with a history of homosexuality in his bloodline. That would be the cherry on t

I capitulate, probably the best currently well known scholar to ask for a learned opinion is our Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, you speak of him often in here.

Until you get a reply from a Greek scholar I'll have to rely on English dictionaries, as this is indeed being debated here in England.

Chris in no mortal dimension does “phobia” mean ”dislike or prejudice”.

Stop appropriating Greek when there are “good old english words” that already mean what you describe :D

I'm part Cypriot and can speak reasonable Greek... Does that count? ;)
