If Dr Disrespect isn't well known in gaming, who is?
And yeah, people paid a lot to be in that picture, don't you recognise @mrbell1984 in the bottom right? He's facing away from the camera but still unmistakable.
Thats way different.
First of all is actual human beings competing in real life. not in call of duty shooting eachother using zero's and ones compiled into pixels on a screen, its not real.
second of all, sports, you tend to support a team or person so there is a incentive and belief that you want that person or team to win a competition.
NOt everyone can be a good sports person and compete at a high level. Otherwise most "spectators " would.
Now coming back to virtual gaming spectating, anyone can pick up a control pad and play these same games that this "DR NOBODY" does.
Its a way different comparision bro
I'd like to see you compete against some of the top Counter strike players then and see how you fare. It may just be pixels on a screen, but it still takes skill and knowledge. There is no way you could 'pick up a control pad' and then have a chance against someone like Shroud (unless you were particularly skilled yourself).
Yup - there is a vast difference in terms of mental process (awareness of item/equipment timing and value), danger awareness and self preservation (a top level player will know when to disengage from a firefight they can't possibly win or are at a serious disadvantage while a less experience and/or less skilled player will continue with that fight), knowing the fastest routes and the time it will take another player to complete a particular route, etc. they depending on game you have things like reading another players model to understand their role and/or equipment and what they are likely to do before they do it (something some people are more skilled at naturally than others but can also be a learnt skill and can be more or less obvious in some games than others). And that is barely touching on it.

Exactly. I highly doubt there is a single player on this forum that could come close to Shroud at an FPS game. His reaction time and game sense is just unreal.
Also he wasn't that successful as a CSGO player, don't get me wrong he was a tier one player but even he struggled to win anything over the years in Cloud9.
I have to say, watching someone else play The Last of Us 2, is a massive waste! It is an amazing game and should be experienced in person.
Examples have been posted elsewhere. But my point can perhaps be illustrated with sport.
Tom Brady is well known in America, and well known to NFL fans. But I wouldn’t be surprised if your typical UK football fan has no idea who he is.
David Beckham was well known to football fans, UK people, and generally worldwide due to his cultivation of his image. He’s probably more well known than Tom Brady.
Tom Brady is probably the better sportsman, but he operates in a sport that is quite centric to America and knowledge of him is restricted.
In this case Dr Disrespect seems well known in his gaming circle, but that doesn’t mean he’s well known generally. That’s not an insult, just a recognition that online gaming is similar to real world sports in that “fame” will normally not extend much further than the genre the streamer covers.
I heard of Jim Sterling and Total Biscuit and Angry Joe also. But not this guy. I guess because I don’t do twitch.Indeed no disrespect to him but I am a gamer and listen to streams but never heard of him either
But I have heard of total biscuit, Jim sterling, simply Austin , Worth a buy Mac, and others.
Clearly he was popular. The only thing I will say.... Depending on what he did , and with a name of Dr Disrespect he doesn't sound on the surface of it as someone I would miss... But then you could say the same about worth a buy Mac as well when you hear him.
As for goldenballs Beckham.... He was offered an NFL contract iirc. Turns out he was pretty much top drawer when it came to field goals.
Haha that's greatNearly 400 posts in, and I'm starting to doubt if this guy even has a PhD.
I have heard of all of those apart from David Braben and The Stamper brothers. However they all became notable for gaming achievements in the 80s and early 90s. So I don't think it's unfair to say that your idea of notable people in gaming might be a little out of date.To name just a few.
David Braben
John Romero
John Carmack
The Stamper Brothers
Peter Molyneux
Hideo Kojima
Gabe Newell
Sid Meier
