Dragon Age Inquisition

I've been looking forward to this for a long time.

Just started playing, but so far i'm a bit disappointed, its seams like a large step back, the story is not there like it was with the last 2 games, the graphics don't look to be a much better from 2, the game play is poor, even the one used in no2 would be better,

its like they could not even be bothered.
for something ive waited years for its poor to say the least.

Brilliant game, I can see why people are calling it GOTY, but it's a tough call as so far I preferred Divinity Original Sin.

But anyway as I said in the driver thread

I was recently using the 344.80's and the game was super smooth with high frame rates, upgraded to the 347.09's and not only did it stutter but frame rates dropped below 60fps on occasions. Went back to the 344.80's and super smooth again with high frame rates. In the same area on the 347.09 50-55fps min was doing 70fps+ on the 344.80.

Others have noted this as well so I'm sticking with the 344.80 :D

Brilliant? I found it boring as hell. The story and characters are unbelievably boring. Apart from graphics, origins is better in every way.

I completely agree with you. Not sure why people think it is such a good game.

Really is a great game. On my second playthrough now and I am just taking my time and exploring as much as possible.

The story is pretty weak and the first hour in particular is pretty abysmal. I also dislike how they have gone out of their way to make the game socially "progressive" as it is so ham fisted.

That said, the game is very big and some of the characters are great: Cassandra in particular was very well written. Plus, there are some very good moments in the game that make it feel worthwhile.

Ultimately, the game is flawed and I am losing faith in Bioware. But the truth is, its still the best RPG since Skyrim.

I managed a few hours on this over the weekend, must say I'm not seeing the amazing graphics people are going on about even on ultra. It's nice but nothing earth shattering. So far (and like I said I'm only a few hours in) it's just a single player MMO without the other players. Very much like Kingdoms of Amalur.

Character progression is through leveling and skill trees.
"open" world isn't really that open when you start moving about.
Very limited race/class choices
Incredibly limited interaction with NPCs, so few you can actually talk to.

I've a feeling it'll grow on me though, Divinity OS was far, far more enjoyable by this stage.

I really wish games like this would use the Ultima online method of "leveling" where it's use of the skill which raises it and attributes such as intelligence etc. It allows for a far more customisable character.

Don't got motivation to play this anymore. I got up to the part where you return from inside the fade rift and
hawke dies

It's pretty boring though, how far through the main storyline is this and does it get more interesting? Maybe I burned my interest out by doing all the areas and dragons etc first.

I must give Divinity another go, but I found it really hard. Quite relentless even at the start. It has to be said though that I have very little patience these days. Oh and generally pretty naff at playing games.

I'm still loving this. Around 50-52 hours in now, still amazed at the sheer size of the game. Whilst it's not open world in any real sense, it does manage to give the impression of having a world (or at least several very large areas) to explore in an open manner.

It took a little while, but it does feel like a Dragon Age game now. I started out thinking it was more limited than Origins, but many of the changes have grown on me and I'm now thinking it's every bit as good as Origins was, or at least very nearly so.

Combat has clicked for me and I'm enjoying that aspect a lot more now. I tend to use the same combos for almost every fight, but then that's true of most RPGs by the time you unlock powerful synergistic abilities.

I'm not sure I'm playing my knight-enchanter right because he's certainly not the over-powered God mode I've seen people describe for this class. I have difficulty doing enough damage to keep my barrier up at all times, especially when I have to chase enemies around the battlefield while my barrier is decaying. I do like the options it offers, though. Steam in with a barrier up and wail from the front lines. Set up a bit of crowd control and wade in. Drop fire mines and spray lightning around from right in enemies' faces. Hang back and protect the more squishy party members. Fun.

One worry is that after being almost bug free for 45-50 hours, I'm now starting to get crashes and freezes with annoying frequency.

Up to about 45 hours, I had the conversations not engaging properly bug twice, and one hang on the journal screen which necessitated closing the program through task manager.

Over the last five or six hours, though, I've had one BSOD, two hangs at the journal screen, and three instances where the game just freezes up randomly when out in the world. Hope this isn't a pattern that's going to continue getting worse.

Those annoyances aside I can't remember being so sucked into a game or enjoying one so much for quite some time.

It does have the major annoyance that I find with most open world type RPGs, though - I spend a bloody inordinate amount of time skirting round the bottom of mountains trying to find a route up. Why can't games just mark mountain paths clearly?

Yes of cause, origins is way up there in excellence but I'm still enjoying this game, it blows DA2 out the way that's for sure

I thought Divinity Original Sin was better than DA:I, I would've classed it almost as good as Baldurs Gate (Almost) :D

Reinstalled as there is literally nothing else to play! Getting so ****ed off with the journal. I hope they fix it in the next update. I wish it could be properly modded. The UI in general needs a lot of work.

I got this game a week ago (decided to get it after playing through awakening again)

I still prefer the gameplay & style of origins.

This game is just amazing tho, it's just a shame it is more like a mix of games.

The UI is pretty bad and looks like skyrim :(
When using kb+mouse, having to right click to look is annoying (much like guildwars 2)
The whole tactical camera with kb+mouse is annoying :(
The font is silly, why use capitals? just makes it look more like skyrim
Options for tactics aren't even there and half the time the mage is stood next to the enemies drinking all the health potions.

For all the annoyances and quirks tho, it's still an amazing & fun game :)

The graphics are stunning on ultra textures, the world is so detailed & I find myself spending ages reading things and talking to the people in my group.
I'm not too sure about the idea of rifts, seems poor & the character having a key inside his hand just reminds me of prince of persia / devil may cry
Crafting is fun, effect of decisions make it interesting & the map thing adds something to the game.

I've played the game for 36+ hours and am just starting to get bored of it but that's possibly mainly because it's the only game I've been playing for the past week or so :)

Don't really like the leveling system vs origins
Also am not a fan of rogue being either dagger or crossbow (why not have both like origins?)

Does anyone know the situation on how viable modding is?
Not really read anything regarding the game being open to mods :(

Still sort of feels like a console game ported to the pc :( the way they simplified so much to cater for consoles is a little annoying

I think origins + multiplayer + map making would have been so good, sort of a replacement for nwn

I tried using a xbox controller but couldn't get on with it :( still prefer kb+mouse despite the problems with tactical view
Had to set spacebar to pause also.

I got this yesterday after seeing quite a few positive comments - I find myself being more optimistic and more forgiving of games as I get older, so I'm prepared to take a risk!

Anyway, I got through to the War Room before I started over and tried with the gamepad instead - and I have to say that combat feels much better with the gamepad. I do wish the game would let me do both at the same time, however, and use the mouse in menus while using the gamepad for in-game stuff, but I guess that's too much to ask!

So far, three or four hours in and I like it a fair bit. The open-world feel is great and the environment is very pretty. I'm only fourth level and using the basic companions at this stage, but so far it's proving a refreshing take on the first two - both of which I've played through over the last month. I do like the DA setting and find myself reading a lot of the lore. I do like the occasional nod to the first two games as well :)

Negatives at the moment - I find myself staring at Varric's chest hair whenever he's on screen. It's very disconcerting :D
