Dragon Age: The Veilguard

So are we saying that Ubisoft didn't pay reviewers enough to review it well then compared to EA? Because that game did not review very well for SW Outlaws.
You know just trying to establish the rules here.

Different marketing strategies in play. Ubisoft went the "give everyone a copy" ( any publicity is good publicity ) route, whereas EA have been very selective in dispensing codes. So, I think it's quite logical, and reasonable, to assume the early reviews will have a positive bias. Let's see how things are in a week or two, once more people have had time with the game.

Because they only selected reviewers they thought would give a positive review while denying access to those who they believed would be more critical.
How does that work then? How to they think they know which reviewers would give a positive review?

If someone has been making Youtube videos bashing the game for months on end, then of course they aren't going to be given review code.

That doesn't mean you have to be positive about the game to be able to review it, just say nothing. But you are showing your bias towards it in a negative way then no doubt it puts you off a list.

Seriously ? Are you that naive ? Marketing teams look at channels, YouTubers etc all the time to determine who is likely to give a favourable response. Happens in all walks of life, not just gaming. Given Bioware's precarious situation ( in terms of future viability ) they have been very selective this time round with who gets codes for Dragon Age. Does this guarantee someone will give a positive review ? No, but you can be damn sure they won't receive another code from from EA for future releases if they don't follow the party line.

edit. And as for your comment about bashing the game for months. Many of the mainstream channels that didn't receive codes were previously on good terms with EA, in fact sites like Fextralife have maintained a strong Dragon Age community for years. Denying those sites access isn't a good look ; to the consumer it appears as if EA/Bioware are trying to hide the truth or have a lack of confidence in their product.

It would seem so.
iirc MrMattyPlays in his video review said they’d comb through consistently high reviewers scores then give them the game to review.
I've had experience of this personally on social media/YouTube ( in relation to photography marketing ). Every company keeps a track of what people/channels are saying about them. People are being "tapped" up constantly. Just not Vincent, apparently ;)

I wasn't referring to Youtubers, I was referring to print media.

Youtubers are a wild west, it's been proven that they are more likely to get views (and therefore income) by being negative about things.

I don't have any subscriptions to Youtubers for video games, other than Digital Foundry. And they don't ever give scores, just opinions.

You're being disingenuous. It's clear everyone in this thread is talking about social media reviews. Print media hasn't been a "thing" for about 20 years.
Oh really...

IGN 9/10

The next stage of this process is that 'we' have to discredit every single outlet that positively reviews this game.

Also, for those who are very emotionally involved in this, I would suggest looking up the author's name and then stalking them online to see if you can find any evidence of non-natural hair colours etc.
Although considering the amount of extremely positive reviews, you might have your work cut out.

I cannot offer any advice for if this game sells really well though.

Quick glimpse and it seems pretty favourable scores so far.

Eurogamer loved it (5/5) and IGN gave it 9/10. Forbes gave it 8.5/10

"A fantasy role-playing game of astonishing spectacle. This is the best Dragon Age, and perhaps BioWare, has ever been." A "high bar" for role playing games in general and "the best Bioware game I've ever played"

You can pretty much ignore all the reviews out today, they are all bought and paid for by Bioware. The game is crap, layered on more crap, with a sprinkling of extra crap for good measure.

I loved dragon age back in the day, still have a boxed copy of dragon age origins on my gaming shelf, but calling this the best RPG ever!, who's leg are you trying to pull this hasn't got **** on Baldur's Gate 3. Not even in the same universe let alone solar system.

I guess "print media" was a wrong terms to use, I meant traditional review outlets, not Youtube and Twitter (aka social media)

Another review just dropped

I did actually watch this one, because it said he 100% completed it which I figured would give a better idea than somebody on twitter who said they pretended to be trans to get review code, played the game for 3 hours and decided it was trash.
