Dragon Age: The Veilguard

This game definitely interests me a bit from what I have seen/read so far but not sure how I feel about the combat just from watching, anytime I see a health bar above an enemy I start to get worried about how tanky they are gonna be.

Might need to wait and see more players thoughts on it before I buy it myself but gonna keep an eye on it.

One of the few reviewers I like, not that I watch a huge amount of them. Will have to have a watch, not that I will be buying on launch anyway as I have a massive backlog and zero time.

The concerning bit, which another one touched on being paid reviews or allowed reviews if they are positive is his ending thoughts

" GOTY "
and
" Best game in the series "

So he's saying it's better than Origins? Hmm find that one hard to believe

I will be getting it via a month's worth of EA Play Pro to try it.

"A fantasy role-playing game of astonishing spectacle. This is the best Dragon Age, and perhaps BioWare, has ever been." A "high bar" for role playing games in general and "the best Bioware game I've ever played"

Why would you be surprised at someone's opinion? For example Morty preferred DA:I over Origins, which considering he's a fairly hardcore CRPG guy probably surprises most people.

I don't know about the paid reviews aspect, but the majority of reviews are paid for at this stage as it hasn't been released, but he's had negative things to say about other games, and has some negatives about this too.

I can't remember the last time my 'GOTY' matched with the majority of others. A big part of what I like is that he kind of doesn't care about character creation and/or the romance side of games, which is something I could literally care less about myself - which seems to be a lot of what many people have been upset over, whereas I kind of just stick to the randomised selections.

No no we have to ignore those ones.

To be honest I didn't quite finish the post :D I've no issue with someone loving the game and giving it 5/5, but that review doesn't sit right with me as the whole thing reads like "this is the best thing ever with no downsides" - it's so over-the-top positive and doesn't feel like a critiqued, balanced review. I figured the guy reviewing it was a less experienced journo, but turns out he's well respected and been doing it a while, so it seems odd.

Anyway....interesting to see how divisive this has all been. Watching the Skillup review and a few others rip it apart on pretty much every level only for others to call it a GOTY is odd to say the least. I'll be interested to see the sales figures and user reviews, as I'm not sure this will do particularly well.

Not sure how anyone can say this is GOTY if you just watch some of the clips appearing now - truly cringe awful dialogue and acting. No way you can have a negative character - even seemingly negative dialogue responses actually turn out to be nice and positive. Most of the story points from the previous games either totally ignored or glossed over.

Interestingly the "preview" demo the reviewers got flown out to see a month or so ago actually now turns out to be the best bits of the plot from around 75% of the game stitched together.

I must admit to being a bit surprised Mort gave such a glowing review given some of the above and his track record for being a good balanced reviewer.

You can pretty much ignore all the reviews out today, they are all bought and paid for by Bioware. The game is crap, layered on more crap, with a sprinkling of extra crap for good measure.

I loved dragon age back in the day, still have a boxed copy of dragon age origins on my gaming shelf, but calling this the best RPG ever!, who's leg are you trying to pull this hasn't got **** on Baldur's Gate 3. Not even in the same universe let alone solar system.

The epitome of Confirmation bias.

Made up your mind months ago? Just focus on the bad reviews.

Yep, the goal posts have now shifted because it's gone from oh poo! The reviews haven't majority flopped to now having to pick and choose the ones which count.

Random person.
People are up in arms about which outlet is reliable and which isn't. Doesn't really matter in the end. Listen to the people you trust and decide from there. I just see that some people are mad because they were hoping for the game to be a complete flop and apparently it isn't that. Let's wait for the actual release.

I think they should make the mental gymnastics that are going to happen if it sells loads a televised event because it will be absolutely glorious.

Hmmm, a 45 minute review from Skill-up, easily of the better reviewers out there, no shilling, and he doesn't get into the culture wars angle either, and he thinks it's ****

The character model comparison at 6.32 is pretty damning. He's right it looks like a Pixar studios production. They have definitely set out to make sure no-one gets their fee fees hurt in any way at all. It looks like a game for 10 year olds. The clip from 14.40 onwards is laughable. An "argument" about bringing too many books on a camping trip? LMFAO.
