Dragon Age: The Veilguard

The meme is disengenuous.

There is a difference between having gay character who is well written and just happens to be gay, and between a character whose "nonbinaryness" is the whole point of them with the whole questline being only about that, and where characters go through struggle sessions for "misgendering" them, all while being terribly written.

Now "Mostly Positive" on Steam, which suprises me, I expected far more troll reviews tanking it. Either way, I'd say 70k on launch day is pretty poor for a title as big as this.
I think steam's review bombing measures may have kicked in already. Bit quicker than usual, but it's currently the banner game so Valve's probably taking more of an interest.

And then there's reviews like this:

Review bombing goes both ways, as an aside.

Reviewing a game positively with an hour or two played is no better, and a lot do.

Edit: The game currently has 65k players on Steam, lets see where it ends up come Sunday for peak.

Things are getting increasingly desperate aren't they if it Is now at the stage of monitoring player numbers And having to compare that to other games

Mental gymnastics so far:

Let's wait for the reviews -> oh they are only good because they were paid for (no evidence supplied).

Let's wait for player reviews -> oh well that's not going our way either now.

Player count on just one platform! That will truly give us the full picture.

I think it's time to move on to the next crusade.

Absolutely. This was what I was talking about earlier when stuff like this takes all discussion away from the game and on to an agenda.

Its doing ok, peak player count 70K vs 68K, mostly positive reviews vs mixed reviews, its not bad so far but its also not great, especially for a game that got 9/10 critics ratings pretty much across the board.

I created a quite nice looking blonde human woman (very woke) and played the opening section whilst my wife watched Married at First sight. Was impressed with that very short almost on-rails bit.

Hopefully will get to play a bit more today as I haven't really scratched the surface yet. I also really don't know much about what's going on and who is who, as I only ever completed the original and that was a loooong time ago.

I loved all the previous DA games but am avoiding this for well discussed reasons. I am enjoying reading the thread though as arguments on both sides are pretty entertaining. Yes I'm annoyed a franchise I loved has been treated like this but why are people getting so worked up about it, same can be said for the over-zealous defending of it and the standard bigot argument. Plenty of other games to play!

I'd be inclined to say that avoiding something that you've loved based on internet drivel is just another way of getting "worked up about it". The cynic in me tells me that this is all part of a modern advertising campaign; there's no such thing as bad PR.

I'm not worked up about it, it's clearly a far way from the previous games.

More people playing BG3 atm on steam than DA.

To compare it to other major AAA titles

Black Myth: Wukong had 2,415,714 concurrent players on launch. Cyberpunk had 1,054,388 concurrent players on launch. Elden Ring had 952,523 concurrent on launch. Hogwart's Legacy had 879,308. Baldur's Gate 3 had 875,343.
Starfield had 330,723.

Can't imagine 60k players is what BioWare hoped for
