Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is coming to PC

Well, possession is only an issue with dragons so probably not worth prioritising unless you know you'll be meeting a lot of them!

Well, ghost can posses a pawn as well, although it is easier to break them out from that if it happens. But since I can't decide as to what clothing to wear it be some dragon hunting for some time so even a little possession protection will be better then none ! :p

This is all personal preference, tbh. I prefer comestion to ingle because I find it more reliable. Either is fine. Seism is okay too for a bigger hitter, I prefer gicel for the same role as it has better range and a way of walloping dragon hearts (or so it seems).

Fulmination chains to allies in range, so your whole party can have it on when a sorceror casts it.

It's alright, don't mind suggestions to see how things works out. You right about the Gicel though, since it is ice based it does hurt a dragon more since they weak against ice. And thanks for the confirmation on Fulmination, I'll take the Immolation and have a try with it all. :)

I found your pawn and took her on a run of the final wing of BBI. No idea how many RCs you'll earn, but I had her as my only hired pawn. We did kill a firedrake, a frostwyrm, a cursed dragon, a condemned gorecyclops, a living armour, several standard gorecyclopes and about a dozen other mobs, so hopefully quite a few!

I did have to revive her a bit, but that was to be expected. She did cast fulmination on me, though, so I then went climbing all over the frostwyrm with immolation on, so that was a bonus! (I had to fire off and then set off an explosive rivet just in time as she was about to get possessed, though ;) )

Nice run, hopefully she got some more experience on those mobs, if not already from others. Have you released her though ?? I just slept in an inn and did not get a message that someone had been renting her ?

Hmm. That's annoying. Yes, I definitely released her - sent a little gift and ratings and everything! I don't know if it takes a little while for the servers to sync (though I can't imagine why it would).

Perhaps if you could try sleeping at the inn again and let me know if anything happens. If not I can try re-hiring and re-releasing your pawn again.

I forgot to equip my new daggers on the dragons too, so missed getting them dragonforged! Hope it wasn't a totally wasted run!

Yeah, sounds a bit strange. I slept 3 more times since that post so seems something glitched there ? She slightly different equipped now but still a sorcerer and still lvl 67. I just switched myself to sorcerer as well so working to rank up there for the moment, not much exp so far, going after the smaller fiends due to still learning it all. :p

Sorry about your daggers, you more then welcome to bring her along for another run though if you want to get them dragonforged ! ;) :p

Yeah, I might have to try again. I don't like the feeling of leaving something unfinished!

I'll have another go sometime over the weekend. Do let me know if anything comes through in the meantime!

I will do that. Might leveled up by then though but I am sure you can find her, I wont be changing her from sorcerer until later so she is fully learned once you have the time.

Okay. I just had a thought on the way home...

Perhaps I need to rest at the inn after releasing your pawn to get everything to sync with the server. No idea if that might be the issue, but it does only do that long accessing server thing after resting, so I gave that a go.

Hopefully that will cause the game to sync your pawn's status with what happened when she was out with me.

If not, I'll try again sometime tomorrow or Sunday. I might go again anyway, since it was quite fun a bit of a new challenge only having two pawns, both of whome were sorcerors and one a lower level.

Yes, that worked just fine now ! That run you did the pawn earned almost 30k RC's, so thank you for that ! :) Even more so for the Hydra Gallstone you sent with her, I can replicate that one and upgrade her Ancient Bangles, thank you !! :D

I leave her as a Sorcerer over the weekend then, incase you want to bring her for another run or two, gives me time to rank myself up in Sorcerer as well and will make me better support when she learning to be a Mage briefly. :p

Thanks again for the help, very much appreciated ! :)

On a side note, my Pawn now has 38 Unfamiliar Foe's registered under her bestiary and 6 of them were from you ! :p

Great! Glad it worked. :D

Feel free to change her class to whatever. I don't really have any preferences, and I added her to my favourites in the rift so I should be able to find her again whatever her class.

This is fun, actually. I have a huge backlog of games, but nothing is grabbing my attention as much as DD even after over 200 hours! Still don't quite want to let it go, so it's nice to have a feeling of having somethign else to do in the game and the new challenge of running through BBI with a new lower-level pawn. :D

Let me know if there any other mats you have a pressing need for and I'll see what I have in my stash. Would have sent a spare higher level weapon but wasn't sure if you'd feel that would break the game curve for you.

It's very much appreciated what you did and glad it worked out as well ! :D

Was just thinking if I change her to mage and you hire her with only 3/4 ranks then wouldn't be to fun for you. I'm not in a rush so can leave it over the weekend so it's alright. :D

The only material I can't get hold of (from what I know now) would be Wailing Crystal (from Lich) to upgrade a Archistave for my pawn later.

Thanks for the offer about a weapon but those I rather find myself as and when. Just find it a bit off with some weapons upgrades can't be done until post game although you can find the weapons before then, so very grateful for the material ! :D

Glad you finding it fun running around with a low level pawn and it keeping the game interesting for you !

What class does everyone recommend? I've just started the game and picked striker but I was hoping to use the bow more than daggers so slightly disappointed that it's a dagger focused class so tempted to pick mage but unsure is the mage any good ?

I started with Strider as well, then later switched to Ranger (also bow), then to Fighter and after that to Magic Archer and now I am Sorcerer. You only have 9 ranks to fill for each profession, so once they filled you can easily switched to something else, can even switched to something else before the Rank's are filled but you have to reach Gran Soren for that. And it cost Discipline Points to switch but it's a low cost, and once you switched you can go back to the previous profession free of charge if you so wish.

If you want to know more about each Vocation, you can go to Dragons Dogma fandom site, it's very useful.

The class I would most recommend is - all. of. them!

Seriously - this is not like most RPGs, where you pick a class early on and stick to it. The game rewards switching classes in a number of ways.

One is stat growth. If you look at the site @TheSwede linked, you'll find different classes give different stat growth at level-up. If you want a balanced character it pays to switch every so often. If you end up deciding you want to be a ranger but have levelled to level 100 as a mage, you're not really going to have a great time. Also even if you do want to be a full-time mage, your defence, stamina and hit points are going to be pretty low compared to if you'd switched around.

Another point is augments. You unlock these as your class skill (not character level) improves, and there are augments that are useful across classes that you can only unlock by increasing your class skill in one specific class (for instance, I usually take bastion whichever class I'm playing, which is an augment you unlock as a warrior).

Most important is fun - the classes are notably different in playstyle and really worth trying out.

Mage is more of a healer/support class. It's useful, but it doesn't have the big powerful spells that socerors have if that's what you're after.

Strider is specialised at getting in close and climbing big foes. Bow is decent but kind of secondary to the way most people play them. Also, skull/brain splitter is a devasting close-range strider melee move.

If you want a specialised bow class, the ranger is good for physical damage and the magick archer for magic bows. Both can also use daggers but generally spend most time at range with their respective bows.

So, yeah, play as mage for a bit, see if you like it. Then switch to something else.

My favoured classes are: 1. Magick Archer. 2. Assassin. 3. Ranger. 4. Strider. 5. Sorceror. But - the best thing would be to try each one for a bit to see how you go.

That's cool so switching class doesn't reset your stats like in other games? Might give them all a go then see which tickles my fancy

Nope. You continue to get stat points each level and never lose them. Each class gives you extra stats spread across the available categories, but the amount you get varies. Warriors give more hit points and strength, sorcerors give more magic and magic defence, etc. This only takes effect at the point you level up. So, you could be a mage until just before you get enough xp to level, switch and then ding the next level as another class and get that class's level upgrades for your stats. Some people min-max this way to make sure they get optimal stat distrobution (and I did for a bit), but to be honest you don't really need to.

I'm going to finally give this a go after I finish Gears 5 - looking forward to it! :D

Good to hear! This game deserves a bigger PC fanbase! :)

Oh, btw @TheSwede - I killed about 12 liches in my various runs, but couldn't get a wailing crystal to drop. I did notice my stagnant surge was stuck at two stars as well, so maybe it's a really rare drop. Unless I'm mistaken you should have got something for rarefying of your pawn's armour pieces instead... :)

Ohh yes, you are right. I never checked that but it does say the Wailing Crystal is a rare drop on the fan site, sorry about that ! Appreciate that you tired though ! *Hands over a internet beer* .. The Mottled Leather can be used to upgrade the Mummer's Wear to silver dragonforged. Seems I have to take a trip to DDI later on and get that, and maybe next step, depending where the monster that drops that are located. :p

Thanks again for all the help, both with the resources and all the RC's (almost 73k this time around), very much appreciated !! :D

Glad to hear you going to give the game a try, post here when you do and if you make your pawn available for online I might rent it from you. :p

No problem! It was good fun. :)

What are people's experience with this using KB&M?

I play with KB&M. To be honest, it never even occured to me to try a controller. Control with KB&M is fine, mouse look feels smooth and responsive. Can't say I've had any complaints (well, the interface isn't great and could have been optimised for PC, but that's not a biggie).

What are people's experience with this using KB&M?

KB&M here as well and no problems. The only problem I might have on occasion is when I need to hit ESC to get into the menu to save or if wanting to check the map or change weapons, sometimes my big fingers hits F1 instead, which is a Call Forward for the Pawns ! :o :p

No problem! It was good fun. :)

Glad you had fun, my pawn is now a mage for 2 more ranks, then I switch her back to Sorcerer I think. Or maybe Ranger for her to get Stability but it is rank 8 so be a while for that to happen, so not sure yet. The Stability sure helps me when the dragon start flexing it's wings ! :p

Another question, if I would go to BBI just to upgrade stuff, will that guy Barroch always be at the Duskmoon Tower after that or other places ?? Wouldn't want to have to hunt him down every time needing to upgrade something ?? Would obviously all depend what material I need to get to upgrade stuff though. :p
