Very interesting build with your army background maybe 2 deactivated bullets sprayed black with blue tracer tips would cover the hole near your psu,im sure you will come up with something special lol keep up the good work
 
Off to the shop now to pick up my braided 8-pin ATX cable,

I have a good feeleing that by the end of the week this will be installed and running, then time to see what it can do

OCUK peeps, I have posted elsewhere asking but I need telling a few more times

with all the gear I have in this, is 1000W PSU good enough ? While I have it all apart, should I go for the 1200W just to be safe

is there a 1200W that hase 3 x 8pin and 3 x 6pin PCIeX power cables ?

I presume they are not modular at this power ?

I ask as I intend to overclock the everythang !!
 
I entered your spec into one of the PSU calcs and it came to a recommended PSU of 950W and that was without OC the graphics cards. the 1200W would be safer from the numbers I saw.

anyone else have thoughts ?

I have also used the calculators and got a similar number

does an OC add that much more power consumption ?

does the PC draw FULL LOAD on games and other non-benchmarking use?


is the 1000w enough for me or should I go get this

I think with that spec you would be abe to get away with the 1000 watt power supply but that does not lead any headroom for much else mate. The Corsair 1200 watt would probably be a better bet in the long run.
 
The PC will probably never draw full load in normal use, but overclocking does usually require a lot of power, especially if you would overclock the GPU's by any substantial amount. Guessing numbers here with your system specs you probably would be adding atleast an extra 50W power consumption per component (that would most likely be a conservative number considering 3 x 5870's).

From reading around it seems that overclocking adds a substantial amount of extra power needed, it just feels like 1000W will be a close call
 
well, here we go again then, I'll use the 1000w while I have it and upgrade if it fails to deliver

on that note, whats a good item to use to find out power draw on a PC ? I don't own a fluke or anything .. any item that might go onto the UK socket to show readings or the like ?

I bought a 'Ecosaver Plug In Power Energy Monitor Meter' from a very well known rainforesty online store. Google the quoted text.

It shows me how many watts I am pulling from the socket. It also can count the cost over a time just by leaving it plugged in.

It's simple but it works.
 
picking one up later this week, that should work perfectly

only downside is we were looking at our lecky bill last night, the missus now has EVIDENCE Dammit.. Hard EVIDENCE !..

that it's my PC that has doubled our usage :(

oh well, I wonder If I can tell her the fans and lights are all energy saving bulbs ? worth a shot !
 
Oh dear, can you not find a good excuse, using the kettle a lot or something? Plus if its used in off peak times it wont cost that much surely? :D all good arguing points

3x 5870s on a single 360 rad? Would have thought that was a bit underpowered tbh. :/

Build is looking good though dude, nicely done. Just leave the Dremel alone. :p
 
was getting 29 C on core temp with CPU only on one 360 rad

soon to see what effect the 5870's add
