Dungeons & Dragons/Pathfinder/*

@ Pudney - Paladin right? Remember charisma is their spell casting stat, so needs to be high as possible. Unless your stating up for role play, then smashing. Although human bonuses can make it 14, which is still great.

You going for the varient human (+1 to two stats and a feat)? Or the non-varient (+1 to all stats)? If the varient, what you thinking for your feat?

So, this post was purely curious about other groups on here. What do you play?

I'm currently running a 5e D&D game for a group of six fairly inexperienced players and I'm really enjoying it. It seems to be grabbing them more than the other games I've run too, two of them have gone out and bought PHBs of their own.

I'm also playing in a Warhammer FRP 1e game on a more intermittent basis.

Over the last thirty years I've played, and run, more RPGs than I can remember.

Well, 18 sessions later, and Hoard of the Dragon Queen is complete.

I wish I could say it was a brilliantly written module, but it isn't. It has a lot of flaws. However, as with most pre-written adventures, it's what you do with it, not how it was written. I've inserted entire sections (some on the fly!), changed evil motives, added bad guys, removed bad guys, given new motivations, played merry havoc with the rules, and generally used the book only as a base for the game - and it's gone really well.

The characters are all 7th level, at least, some verging on 8th (I refuse to use the milestone system), and this week we're starting Rise of Tiamat. Sadly, we're starting it with three of the PCs dead - but that's what happens when you execute your plans poorly and a dragon is involved! Never fear, they've got a dragon's hoard and they're heading for Waterdeep - death doesn't mean that much when you're rich! I also refuse to let my group go to Waterdeep and not end up in Undermountain :D

I do like 5e. It doesn't get in the way of the game.

I tried to use the milestone system, but the first question I get after a fight is always HOW MUCH XP WE GETZ? ... followed by "What loot". My players are just used to video games and the whole XP thing I think.

Character sheets, are we all using the same ones? We using the thing I linked or something else? Just makes it easier on the DM if they are all the same format.

Out of interested why do you refuse to use the milestone system?
I think it's a mixture of reasons. Firstly, most of my players are old school, and like the exp side of things. Secondly, and more importantly from a DM perspective, the milestone system feels arbitrary and doesn't adequately reflect the effort put in by the party. There were points in the first book where levels 6, 7 and 8 could be achieved with little fuss, provided the party were clever and very lucky (or snuck a look at the module :D). I prefer to make them work for it, even if I have to add homebrew missions here and there.

Does the online sim we are going to use allow for the storing of character sheets?

To be honest I need to have a play with it but I've been away (and still am away) in Cyprus so fell a little behind again.

Was putting the finishing touches ti the book before I left so one nights work should sort it, I'll give you all a few nights to tweak then I'll be asking for final character submissions (go email until I sort something out) then I'll just need to polish off the adventure which shouldn't be more than a few nights work. Aim for around a third week in June start availability of players dependent.

Well the one I made a while ago is still there, saved:

Q2EtPb1.png

Just need to find out how to make it so you log can see it all, then we can update it whilst we play and you can have a live view of what's going on with our HPs and the like.

Give it a play, then see if you can see my character sheet (i'll share it with your email account).

Not sure how I've missed this thread.

Just started playing Pathfinder with a bunch of friends. Due to lives being stupidly busy we only get to have a session a month but we've had a fair few now (7-8).

Its my first time playing and really enjoying it so far :)

Hi chaps, sorry for going radio silent last few weeks been rather hectic with holidays, work and weddings.

The first adventure is finished now, the hook remains the same;

Forgotten Realm

The province of Britannia has always been the least compliant of the many faceted domains that make up the Romodin Empire. It was the most recent land to be brought into the fold of the Empire before the establishment of Ruriks Rest and the Norsca Minor province on the Eastern extremity of the Romodin lands. It was historically a nation of fiercely independent, and devout, tribes who followed their own Gods and who spent their time when not feeding either ******* or fighting one another. Their independent nature led to a brutally messy war of conquest and indoctrination of the local population into the Romodin pantheon of belief was met with outright failure or fierce resistance. A veneer of civilisation and acceptance of both Imperial rule and pantheon fell over Britannia with the expulsion of the Last Queen but peace and happiness seem only an instant away from discord and revolt.

The capital and administrative heart of Britannia, Londinium, is staunchly Imperial with it's ruling class having come from all corners of the Empire to ease the transition of this new land and sell the glories that the Empire can bring it's way. There is no bad word spoken, in the open, and the Romodin pantheon rules supreme in the capital a rule backed up the might of the Imperial legion. Beyond the walls of Londinium, Humber and Northcastle offer smaller beacons of Imperial light but beyond this the Imperial rule is tolerated at best and the Romodin pantheon struggles against the beliefs of the old tribal system.

The old Celtic dieties depite not bestriding the Earth as do their Romodin counterparts are still ferverently worshipped in the wilds and the more remote parts of Britannia and perhaps even in secret in their population centres. Most popular is Silvanus who holds more and more power the further North one would travel, Goddess of nature and the wild the Brits who resent the Empire are enfolded in the depths of her love. This is true even more so North of Hadrian's Wall where the free Bruts live under the rule of the Last Queen and their Celtic dieties. Little is known of the Last Queen and little time is spared for her people, they are tolerated as long as they stay away from the Imperial areas of influence but what they do is draw the focus of the Imperial Legion troops based in Britannia, whose focus is to contain and destroy the "heretics" where possible.

Whilst far from the troubles of Norsca Minor and the Samartan incursions the birth of Rurik spawned danger and destruction across the Empire, no one or nowhere was spared his two faced embrace. The focus of the Imperial Legion on the "heretic" Celts has taken what little resource is available frmo defence of the wider land or holding back the darkness which always threatens the civilised heart of the Empire. A darkness has been growing throughout Britannia, away from the population hearts the land is not safe, the population has contracted to escape the danger that stalks the dark lands and even the Imperial Highway and the succor of the towns, never mind the villages, is being threatened more and more as the days go by.

Aid has been called for by a growingly desperate Queastor Flavious but with the Samartan threat growing in the East & the almost continual war with the Afrikans in the South flaring up once again military resource is at a premium, especially for a backwater such as Britannia. Imperial Legion has been unable to send more than a newly minted token force under the command of a newly made Centurion.

Recognising the Imperial shortgall the Chruch of Thor led by Ragnar Helbane, Fist of Thor, has led a co-ordinated call of the Church, The Stone Firsts whose Dwarven mines are now under threat in Britannia and the Adventurers Guild to call on as many able bodied and willing adventurers and mercaneries who can come to the aid of Britannia, the price they are paying is not to be sniffed at, there is glory and gold to be had...

I'm just in the process of playing with the character sheets and the online portal to look at running the game so should be done that tonight.

In the meantime when are you chaps free to start up? I cannot do this weekend (13-14th) or the 27th-28th but any other Sunday perhaps?

Let's agree on a date and I will get character sheets in from you all.

Cheers.

Anyone else ok with 12/07 (Sunday)

Roll20 is pretty straightforward, you can also run character sheets through this :)

As soon as we agree a date I can prepare the adventure in advance, it will take a while :p

I'd like to suggest maybe not doing it weekly anyway. I run a monthly game with my mates as the DM and that takes a lot of time to prepare for.

Every 2-3 weeks? Or we be slightly flexible with it perhaps.
