DX11 only a short term advantage says NVIDIA

I dont think you meant to quote me, nothing you just said is really relevant as I responded to someone saying the [current] consoles dont use DX, and I said yes they do. The xbox original isn't a current console hence it wasn't mentioned; although it is also implied it was used for this as I mentioned where the name of both consoles came from :)
I never specified particular DX versions.

I'm just cranky in my old age and like to pick up on factual errors, having had to wrestle with DirectX when it was new :p. What we have always seen is that newer versions of the API drives ati & nvidea to produce cards that support it. MS made a huge mistake making Dx10 Vista only as most people and companies have just skipped Vista straight to Win7. Those suggesting that Dx11 is irrelevant will be right in the short term, as most people now are on Dx10 gpu's and uptake will take a few years to filter in to generic home PCs

this is the way i see is if nvida as problems getting something to work (e.g dx10.1 in the past) they cry about it and stops game makers using it just because nvida couldn't get it working.

now ati as they dx11 card out first, nvida is making up crap... basicly i think nvida is jealous lol :D

keep up the good work amd/ati.

Its nothing new, when they can't do something others can, they'll have it halted till they can, so don't expect Dx11 to start picking up till they have Fermi out in March, as they'll be throwing wads of cash around now to not have it used till they get them out, its same old Nvidia. :)

By the time the big DX11 releases hit the market the new NVidia cards will be released and I`d bet even the low end new Nvidia cards do very well in DX11 games because Nvidia has had more time to develop them, rather than rush out initial DX11 cards just for Windows 7.

The 5000 series cards weren't rushed for Windows 7 they just actually worked so were released, Nvidia cards coming out so late isn't because they have had more time to develop them, it's because Nvidia can't get the things working and have had to go back for multiple respins.

to be fair to Nvidia quite a lot of the delay have been due to tsmc, just in the same way that Ati have had production issues due to tsmc. of course thats no tot say that Nvidia havnt had problems but tsmc certainly havnt helped.

personally i'll wait till june time and see what ATI respond with weather it's a new card or a nice price cut so i can grab afew 5870's and xfire them :))

Possibly a refresh of some kind but I don't really think they need to tbh, a price cut would suffice.

To honest these 5850/5870's are enough to keep most going for at least another 2years. I cannot see the benefits of better cards just yet as games developers are still not catching up with the technologies.

Our current top end cards are capable of some real good fps and getting anymore is just for the benchmarker's bragging rights IMO.

Would love to see more games making use of DX11 soon. Not too fussed about Fermi and the 5890, although price cuts would be nice ;)

I'm still using XP so it's doesn't really bother me. I've just built a new PC and gone with the 5850 as I thought my 8800gt would be a little limiting.
