surely there should be beeps if anything was wrong...im just getting the green light on the mobo next to the power connector and thats it
According to the Intel website the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme has only been supported since bios 1334, even though people have been able to boot with ES chips that doesn't meen it will boot with a retail chip.
If you have another cpu or if you can borrow another cpu, then try updating the bios to version 1334 to see if that solves the problem.

I presume the soft power switch is connected properly? Just a thought! ;)

Oh, and by the way, I bought an Asus P5W DH Deluxe from OCUK a couple of weeks ago and the packaging had "Supports Core 2 Duo" plastered all over it. I presume this means that they now come with a suitable BIOS preinstalled.

I upgraded it to version 0701 (I think) anyway using a P4 that I am currently "borrowing" from work! :p

Just checked and my 6600 has been shipped! Yah, my bank manager will be pleased as the longer I was waiting, the more items I added to the backorder!

Off to hang around outside CityLink now!

You will fine with 0701 i think, but maybe put 0801 on while you have the P4.

I think if you remove all graphics cards, you should get 8 beeps. That was on an old P3 though so can't guarantee they haven't change it.

Why would the thing power for a mili second though when I remove the 12v pwr supply wire???? and it doesnt when its in...the led on the fans turn on and the fans move for a mili second....although still no beeps or anything

Loose wire in one of the PSU connectors? Try gently pulling /wiggling the wires individually with the connectors plugged in.

does your psu have the 8 pin connector or are you having to use the 4pin to 8 pin adapter? Intel say not to use the latter.

Do you have another psu to try ? just to eliminate it as the problem.

That's just the power from the capacitors discharging.
Try another psu, as Devious suggests.
