EA - We Can Do Better

Can someone please explain how EA requiring you to install Origin to play BF3 is any different to Valve requiring you to install Steam to play Half-life 2?

I actually agree with pretty much everything Peter Moore said in that statement.....

some people need to take a long look at the world is the think EA are the worst compnay in America

The only difference is that steam actually has a purpose.
Its established itself as pretty much the only form of DRM that is acceptable.
Yes its DRM, so therfor its bad, just like Origin, but at least steam actually
has sales and other promotions on that make you want to use the service and lets you have your entire game library in one place, unlike Origin which just has over priced games and DLC.

Origin is just DRM through and through, it has no purpose outside of that.

November last year it was at 50million users.

STEAM_0:0:60784936

is a recently banned Steam ID on Vac banned.com which is over 60 million.

considering I have two accounts one at 16 million from 2007 and my original and current one at 5 million from 2004

the amount of online gamers has increased from 2007-2013 is a rate of 7 million + steam accounts a year.

Origin has matched it in 2 years but it's not a suprise since bf is a massive franchise as is masseffect and fifa which all require origin.

which is

I don't really have an issue using origin, I just wish publishers would come to an agreement with one service instead of having to run multiple clients, that will try to update games/themselves all the time etc. Not to mention that updates of BF3 are flakey as hell.

Bottomline, you can't trust EA. I remember not long a go having a pop at the steam sales and devaluing games. Funny that, given the most popular games keep their prices high regardless (cod I'm looking at you), and then EA have had MULTIPLE bottom line sales themselves, totally discrediting themselves. If you go and **** off the competition, don't then go and follow suit.

Ahem... Bullfrog developed and released Dungeon Keeper and it's sequel after they had been bought out by EA. They also released Theme Hospital which some regard as the best game Bullfrog produced, and a personal favorate of mine, Populous: The Beginning.

Well the game was well along in development when bought, it was their final game before the EA acquisition. Yes EA bought them before it was released but it was also clearly a Bullfrog -EA project.

It isnt. EA taking all of there already released games off of Steam and forcing you then re-register on Origin is the big difference. Also, Origin is an inconvenience. Steam is a convenience.

I hate to spoil the party, but this is deja vu. We had the same arguments when HL2 was released as internet access compulsory to unlock the game before you play. I also seem to remember that the servers were flaky and failed continuously in handling the vast amount of traffic. Even now Steam has its downfalls, like periodic internet access to unlock games so I can play them off-line in a non-internet access area.
But now Steam is a god-send as I can only buy PC games online, since Anglesey and Bangor have little selections of games other than Sims3 or Peggle.

To be honest I would never have gone so far to call EA THE worst company in America. But then I read that statement from the OP and just thought.... well didn't you just grab your shovel and dug your own grave.

He specifically mentions that EA are covered a lot on the internet and as such have a bigger audience for polls like this “That debate takes place in bars – our audience lives on the Internet. So no surprise that we drew more votes there.” So he then decides to write an arrogant statement like that. Then proceeds to post it on the internet where the "bigger audience of people that LIVE on the internet" can see. What does he really expect from it ? People are going to bash EA more. They are going to see what a condescending idiot the CEO of EA is. The statement is almost troll worthy.

I've never really been one to bash a gaming company, EA or otherwise. As far as I see it as he kind of mentioned. All companies are going to make mistakes, and yes a huge company like EA mistakes will be seen in a "worse light" than say if a smaller company made a similar mistake. But you learn from it and carry on. A statement like what he has posted will just feed the fire. EA would have been better off ignoring this all together and move on.

Do I think EA are the worst company in America.... well that statement has certainly put them closer to the top on my list !

In the past year, we have received thousands of emails and postcards protesting against EA for allowing players to create LGBT characters in our games. This week, we’re seeing posts on conservative web sites urging people to protest our LGBT policy by voting EA the Worst Company in America.

We're a badly run company that is completely out of touch with our customer base. Look there's the Good Year Blimp.

Honestly WTF.

ROFL.

When the COO openly communicates with their consumers in this way, nothing good can come of it and you know such attitude is endemic within the organisation.

I have not purchased an E.A game for a few years now. I do not see that changing any time soon. Likewise for Activision. Moore and Kotick are a disease to this industry.

I've never seen such a superficial and fake statement from any CEO ever. It's horrible, condescending and completely out of place. The guy runs a media empire and must employ hundreds of people across the sexuality spectrum.

It really really offended me.
