Earthquake in Japan....9.0...ouch!

Seriously, these are so common for Japan it's a non issues really.

Depends how deep and what type of earthquake it is. That one looks big on the scale but could have been deep and not therefore caused much destruction.

This new one was only 20 miles deep and is going to have a huge effect on the whole of asia/pacific

Earthquakes are common in Japan, they sit in the so called ring of fire. But not of this magnitude, its the highest recorded there since records began. It is in no way an insignificant event.
