Easyriders Cinema Room

Ah, I see. It will look better to have a 'surround' around the HDMI wire coming from the ceiling instead of just a hole with the wire coming out of it.

Yeah thats what the white socket is for in the ceiling.

I'll be using a standard electrical blanking socket for the wire to pass through

Like this with a hole drilled through and a rubber gromet around the hole

Great thread, will keep watching. I plan to do something like this once I move to a bigger place.

Out of interest is you house detached?

Yes its detached.

Quick update:

I have finished all the platerboard :) and had the plasterer around to give me a quote.

He's coming next thursday and said could I knock some more nails in :p

Thanks Davy644;)

I actually apologised for a few gaps and he said for a DIY noob I had done a good job! :p

Will post a pic of before the skimming and after the skimming for you :)

Really looking forward to this phase as I'm sick of the sight of plasterboard and the room will look more like a room and not a building site!

He said a couple of days drying with some heaters in and I can get on with the painting and fitting of the skirting.

Gives me just less than a week to fit the last electrical sockets, speaker sockets and wires, Cat 5 cable, coax and phono's

Today I made a channel in the front wall for the HDMI,Coax and audio cables for the TV.

I have done it in such a way that I can freely change the cables without touching the walls again

Here are a few pics of the LED Lights in place and TV HDMI cable.

Everything is now ready for the plasterer

Of course the wires will not be on show :p

Wall Lights; The left hand plug is for the SUB and the other is for (I dunno):p

Looking good. Best to have more plugs than you need anyway. Saves having wires trailing around here, there and everywhere!

How long do you think it will take now to complete?

Thursday it get plastered

3 days after that with heaters running I can start painting and fixing the skirting and plugs.:)

All the wires are running behind the skirting

I'll then fit the carpets

Then once thats done,I can start bringing in the Screen,19" racking and speakers etc...

I reckon a couple of weeks hopefully:)

Best to give it extra time for drying out mate.don`t use too much heat or everything will start to crack(you could end up with plaster dropping off in patches).
Paint only when ALL the plaster is light pink in colour.
Don`t be in too much of a rush to get it finished or you will spoil the job :)
Paint wise a lot of decorators on site have said for best results water down the first coat of emulsion 50/50 (a mist coat they call it)apparently it gives a better finish

I'll just let it dry naturally then thanks for the tips about the painting:)

Another good approach to painting is do a wash of size or very dilute PVA glue. Plaster is stupid absorbant, if you seal it first you'll need to do fewer coats and use less paint, which is all money in the bank for popcorn.

Room is looking lovely though, what are the dimensions?

Haven't even decided on a colour scheme yet:

Its roughly 25m square:)

Good stuff, looks like it's coming on well.

Did you decide which sub you're going to get?

Probs the Monolith-DF or the XLS200 MK2

The NEW XLS300 MK2 is only 40 quid cheaper than the DF so might aswell go fo the DF.

Just think that the NEW XLS200 MK2 will be more than enough for the room though at £282

Looking good :D

Easyrider, you've actually inspired me to actually make an effort with my own speaker cabling now, so I'm going to (attempt to) run all the cabling through the walls and terminate at one of these plates near to my receiver :D

Although I think im going to have to add around 10 metres of extra cable to my order now :o

Snap :D

They are on the rear walls... Pics soon

Looking great :D

I love plaster :p
It's been said already but with the plaster, let it dry naturally for a couple of days, then with light grain sandpaper I'd smooth the walls down a touch. When it comes to painting, either seal with the PVC glue method or dilute your paint on the first coat as the plaster is highly absorbant.

Thanks for the Tips!:)
