EE - 4G

Just to chime in again on the whole "T-mobile to EE" transition issue:

My new phone arrived today, but I've checked speedtest with the old one a few times throughout the day out of sheer curiosity. Today I've been getting around 1.5-2.5mb/s download speeds, and a fairly constant 1.3-1.4mb/s upload. Still a lot better than the <400kb/s I was used to previously in this area (pre-EE), but not as fast as the 3-5 mb/s that I was getting over the weekend.

The suggestion about connecting to an Orange tower rather than T-mobile seems to fit the bill quite nicely actually... With my new phone (Note2) I'm getting similar speeds as well (1.5-2.5mb), and that phone registers as "T-mobile Orange" rather than as "EE". On my old phone the registration was always simply "T-mobile", never T-mobile Orange.

the only phones that are capable of 4g are:

iphone5 (but EE only, wont work with other carriers next year)
Samsung S3 LTE

thats about it at the moment I think.

Any phone will work on the network, but just wont get 4g speeds.

iPhone 5 (but EE only, wont work with other carriers next year)
Samsung S3 LTE

+

HTC One XL
Samaung Note 2 LTE

iPhone 5 (but EE only, wont work with other carriers next year)
Samsung S3 LTE

+

HTC One XL
Samaung Note 2 LTE

I know I keep pointing this out.
But EE is going to buy the frequencies IP5 don't support. So you won't even be able to use all of EE 4G network.
If you want 4G, IP5 is not the phone to get. Especially now the auctions have been agreed for early next year.

HTC One XL
Samaung Note 2 LTE

Also the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE.

I know that the S3 LTE and Note 2 LTE are tri-band, and will support the three LTE frequencies to be used in the UK (800Mhz, 1800Mhz and 2600Mhz). I don't know about the other three phones though...

The lumia 820 and 920 suport all frequencies.

And HTC 8x is confusing plenty saying it supports all, but 2600 is missing from specs. Even though its included elsewhere.
Unless there's two different versions.

EE Film & EE Wednesday coming from EE.

From - http://goo.gl/BsXkW

...a trusted source has told us that EE will also announce EE Film and EE Wednesday.

We’re waiting to hear more about EE Wednesday but guessing this is the replacement for Orange Wednesdays, the promotion which currently allows customers on the Orange network 2 for 1 cinema tickets. We wouldn’t be surprised if EE extended this to customers currently under T-Mobile contracts.

EE Film will be free for EE customers on a 4G plan but available to non EE customers for a fee and will offer the ability to view one film per week from brand new DVD releases. We’re waiting to hear on wether these are first run DVD releases but sounds like a good offer if it’s included in the package free of charge. EE are also developing their own standalone app, available next year on consoles and TVs that will no doubt be tied into both EE Film and EE Wednesday. ...

I'm not going to bother wasting the energy expressing my complete lack of excitement about this.

Ora wednesday is extremely popular with tween/student/young prof so I don't doubt marketing told them not to touch their golden egg. EE Film is possibly an extension of the old "Orange Film to Go", a service where you got a free film each week.

Azza - that's peak for you :( Obviously a 7.2 trans but that's pretty good tbh :)

GO GO GO GO GO GOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EE has finally revealed tariff and handset pricing information for its LTE network, due to officially launch in the UK on October 30th. Those hoping for unlimited data will be disappointed, with the company instead opting for different data allowances depending on the monthly cost of your contract. All the tariffs come with unlimited calls and texts on a standard 24 month contract, with the following pricing options available:

Anyone looking for more data will either have to purchase additional add-ons when running low, or move up to the £60 business tariff which features 16GB of data. Regardless of how much data you have, you can use it however you see fit, with VoIP access and tethering supported across the full range of tariffs. Customers hoping to avoid eating into their precious data will also be able to access BT's Wi-Fi hotspots littered across the UK at no extra cost as part of their plans.

Those hoping for a less restrictive 12 month contract will have to add an extra £10 per month to their chosen tariff. Customers wanting to bring their own handset, meanwhile, will be able to do so from November 9th, as EE will also offer 12 month SIM only plans. The company says that those will be £15 cheaper than the 24 month plans, with prices starting at £21 per month. MiFis will also be made available, starting at £15.99 per month for 2GB of data.

EE also let slip details of how existing Orange and T-Mobile customers will be able to move over to an LTE tariff. Anyone who has joined the networks in the past six months will be able to make the jump to LTE for a one-off fee of £99. Those with six months or less remaining on their contract will also be able to switch early: customers will still have to pay for the final months of their plan, but EE will apply a 33 percent discount on the remaining balance to help ease the sting.

Finally, the carrier is offering some additional incentives to entice customers over to its LTE service. Those paying £41 or more will be receive a free add-on, with choices including music streaming provided by Deezer, two free mobile games per month, or live mobile TV supporting up to 19 channels. As if that wasn't enough, EE is launching its own on-demand Film service. It's a standard content store accessible across mobile devices, but with an added twist: customers will be offered a coupon every week that will let them watch any title in the store for free. Fans of Orange Wednesdays will also be pleased to know that EE will offer an identical service, allowing customers access to two movie tickets for the price of one every Wednesday in cinemas across the UK.

And now laugh...

If those are the prices, how pointless. What's the point of advertising streaming films, Then offer 8Gb max @ £41

However it wound be the first data sheet that has been wrong and identical one to that, which has since been removed from websites had the top tier as £106

If you decide to move to EE you will need to start a new contract with EE.

There’s no charge to move. Depending on the cost of your Orange or T-Mobile plan and the EE plan you choose, you may need to pay more than you do today.

EE plans will be announced soon. All plans will be sold with a range of data allowances and bundles allowing you to choose the one that suits you best.

thats what it says on the ee website- I will be very unhappy if I have to pay £99 to move- ie I just won't bother

Will you be riding the 4G LTE train come 30 October

At those prices, not a ***** chance.
Sim free lumia 920 and get Three - Ultimate Internet SIM 200 1 month and the tethering add on, £17.90 a month.

Those prices aren't just premiums. They are off the chart ridiculuse.

Crack

What do I win for guessing right? I still hold a little hope(about 2%)that this is one person leaking info and all the media are using the same incorrect source.

An e-beer. :p

Now where was it that I posted how loads of people would go signing up new contract with T-mobile and Orange thinking they would be able to switch to EE with an added little premium (extra £10 p/m) for 4G ... while in fact EE would make it a massive premium and no one would know because they ain't announced it yet.

I honestly didn't think it would be £99!! Incredible!

look at my earlie post- their website is still saying theres no charge to move!

I suppose we shouldnt be too surprised at these silly prices- its early adopter shafting as usual, I bet even by new years pricing will come down when nobody moves over to 4g lol (i hope)
