*****EGOSOFT TNBT (X Rebirth)****

I'm sorry, but that video does not look fun... It seems like a small boring little mini game. Hardly something worth investing time in.

Not sure I am keen on this now :(
Hmm, funny I didn't pay much attention to that scanning minigame or the ship movement in the exploration video - but now that you mention it, granted that looks pretty dull. :(

My eyes however were distracted by the scenery - as long as there are plenty of fresh environments to explore I think I can look past the rest of it.

One thing I'm not keen on is the asymmetric cockpit design - that could get annoying after a while. I think I'm going to wait for the weekend and see some more footage first.

They use up a lot of real estate on the cockpit design and i must admit it looks a little twitchy. Looking forward to first impressions though.

Is there a review embargo of any kind? I expected to see some reviews or in-depth initial impressions at this point, but it seems quiet.

Yeah, the mini-game exploration did look kind of uninspired compared to the complete freedom to explore you have in the previous games. I don't like the added hand holding this new system suggests, but then I don't have to use it do I?

I have pretty much decided to hold off on this until after a few long-term player reviews have filtered through various forums. I've been burnt by pre-ordering Rome 2 this year, and I swore no more.

There have been some quite in-depth previews, such as this translated German preview:

Preliminary Pro’s

Despite DX9 graphics in space very presentable
Very busy (especially on "hotspots" such as stations)
Mass Transit system fills the cold black with life
Four large-scale solar systems
Almost everything is a working simulation - not just a background image
Successful spacecraft control
Drones and revised trade make good impression
Fights are a lot of fun, thanks to many participating ships, stations, and large vessels.

Preliminary Con's,

Station graphics and especially the NPC's not very presentable.
Folding lists: zones, fleets and stations make us instinctively fear
Old fans need to follow a few hours of action before they get their typical X-feel
It's hard work taking everything in... every where you look
Dialogue system not convincing

Current status:
Far advanced beta version (presentation) / / Gamescom version (played itself)

Current rating:
Although we are left with the memory of the prejudices about the X series in the past, but otherwise always open and interested. The vitality of the game world has pleasantly surprised us, also the control. But the complex station system that apparently degenerating into micromanagement Find people and performing dialogues, and the manual collection of hundreds of information symbols (Do they not have internet nearby station?) let the release with a certain residual concern look. Currently the game can be between "Ingenious space-sim" or a "occupational therapy" but anything can happen!

Rating: Good

Good to see it climbing in the Steam charts :)

Anyone noticed the lack of reviews? The game is released on Friday and I have not seen one review for Rebirth. Maybe this is just the norm nowadays but once over the lack of review generally meant that the Publisher knew their game was a stinker.

The days of reviews a week before release are long gone as it is. Normally it is a day or 2 before. However the US release is not till next week which could mean no reviews until friday/weekend.

I think it's a little naive that people think a publisher won't release review copies early if they have a great game. They would want all the hype and publicity possible.

Recent big releases such as Rome 2 and AvPprove that if no early reviews exist, the title will be received badly.

After being burned with preorders and hype in the past I wouldn't buy this before the reviews come in tbh. I'm leaning towards the game being received badly hence the lack of reviews/hype

TBH, nowadays with digital download, there's no need to preorder. It's not like the old days when you had to go to a shop and they told you a title had sold out.

That's a fair point. You could just wait it out for reviews and if you like it, you could buy it and have it installed within an hour or so.

I preordered this because I found it on a good deal. X games traditionally come out a little broken but still definitely playable and they only improve over time. I've got a good feeling about this game and I really enjoyed X3 so hopefully this will just be more of the same, not that that is for everyone.

Is the deal still available?

I'm waiting for the reviews before I buy it, don't really know why because even if they aren't great I will probably still end up buying it

But if the reviews aren't great and you have to wait for patches down the line, you might as well give the game a couple of months to get fixed and then get it cheap in a Steam sale.

Why rush to play any game on launch day when it's broken? You might as well wait until it's fixed and enjoy the full experience - and pay less money in the process.

They've been working on it for 7 years, I'd hope it isn't that broken.
