Nope they are not. Map/ sectors will be completely different to suit the new travel methods. Some parts may look similar to current sectors but they will be far far larger areas.
 
This year last time i heard, wouldn't be surprised if it was pushed back to early next year though since i haven't heard much from it in a while.

Yes no news on a release date yet, although there have been some new screenies released recently.

Loved X3 - Reuinion, recently got back into the game with Albion Prelude.

But my machine is having panic attacks looking at those screenshots, hope they do a better job of optimising the game engine this time around :(

Thats what I liked about Elite, free roaming space. You could jump in to hyperspace at anytime to travel distances and then just fly normally to reach planets. It behaved more like open space, rather than closed rooms.

Exactly what ruined it for me. But really looking forward to Rebirth, just hope it lives up to it.

Even if they some how manage to get it out the door before the years over, it'll be buggy as hell to start with, tis an Ego tradition afterall. :p

But with only a handful of worthwhile Solar Systems and massive amounts of open space in between them, a Jump Gate system would probably be utilised if/when the time comes that technology like that exists/is possible.

I know its about rebirth but i thought ppl would like to see the new trailer for the new stuff coming in albion prelude.
