Eight months later - R8 Delivery day!

Ricky at RD is the man but no need to do anything in my opinion. That was my previous mistake, I don't need a 10 second car :D

Tim is doing some really interesting stuff with GTR's at the moment. And Ricky (being ex Audi lead tech or something) always seems to be working on R8's. :)

Nice but isn't the new R8 due soon? And no auto makes me sad.

Drive a car with a gatored shifter and you'd not be sad, kudos for JP for going that direction. :)

Also glad to see plenty of room in the footwell, when a drove a Gallardo the lack of room for my feet was a major issue, dream car which after I drove it and no longer was it my dream car.

Out with some friends in Milton Keynes for a curry last week and one of them was in a V10 Lambo with open pipes. Good god it sounded epic as it blasted off down the road.

Looks really good, enjoy!

I really like the interior design, looks very good. So many modern cars seem to get the interior wrong. They have a leather padded panel on the right of the middle instrument binnacle, but not to its left, why is that?

Open exhaust on these V10s is nuts, after 4k RPM this one sounds great as the valves open, not crazy like straight pipes though.

Same here with the dream car bit, Gallardo has no room at all and is way offset so the throttle is right under the centre of the steering wheel, just feels weird, that car was really designed to be left hand drive where there is no problem with the wheel arch.

Thanks, if you mean the leather padded panel in the R8 then the drivers side bit is part of the "monoposto", kind of the cockpit bit around the driver.
On the passenger side there is still a padded knee rest, just it doesn't extend up around the glove box.

Great car, hope you enjoy it. Even before this I'd heard about the "handover" thing, dear god, what a pretentious load of crap, if I ever bought a new Audi, I'd just say can I have my car ready to go in the car park please, without the Audi bedsheet please, the whole handover thing I think is a bit lost and watered down when your R8 is put on par with a Hotpoint White A3 TDI that was "unveiled" half an hour earlier.

Total +1 here.

I want to turn up take the keys and drive off. No clapping or champagne rubbish.

I'm sure they'd let you just take it from the car park. However, I'm sure a lot of people have been saving hard to get their car, so it's nice that the garage makes some effort. It's important to create an "experience" when visiting a garage. If the customer doesn't mind appearing in photographs, it's also very good for marketing.

The whole handover thing was about 5 minutes, just go into the room, pull the cover off, have a look around and drive it out.
Bit pretentious indeed but it was nice to see the car for the first time and have a good look around inside with the lights on rather than outside in the car park.

Beautiful car and one I would have in a flash with my own money over most things.

But one thing that annoys me is the steering wheel they use on all the special rs / s and R8 cars are the exact same as the s-line wheel in my new A3 if I paid that kinda money i would want something unique to the car. They just change the insert on the bottom.

They aren't the same steering wheels at all....much thicker in the R8 + RS cars.

JP you should definitely save up and get a Capristo exhaust, you'll thank me later. ;)

Also drive safe during winter, remember the Quattro on R8s is 80% rear & 20% front. :)

Didn't feel any bigger in the new rs6 my boss has got but I'll take your word for it :D
