*** Elden Ring ***

Neightreign absolutely sucks ass, don't waste your money guys

Playing with randoms sucks and the leave penalty sucks even more. Get stuck with a group who splits up? Your run is over. One person leaves? Your run is over. Die a couple times and lose levels? Your run is over. But dare you quit despite the run being over? Now you will be banned!

It's pretty clear that devs have no experience making this type of multiplayer game and every design choice is extremely frustrating and makes players want to uninstall

It's also clear the player count has fallen off a cliff. The first day it was easy to find groups in matchmaker, it's now day 3 and sometimes it takes 10-15 mins to get a group, the game is dying rapidly

I'm really worried about Duskbloods

That’s disappointing to read, I was hoping there might be something there and perhaps pick the game up later once the dust had settled. Nightreign was always going to be hit or miss for a developer that’s not traditionally done a game of this type, looks like it’s going to be a miss.

There is 207,306 playing right now on Steam of a Sunday morning, thats definitely not player count falling of a cliff or dying rapidly.

I quite enjoyed this for a bit, the difficulty was high but it always felt like I could do it with some perseverance. That's until I came to the level which was completely swamped in fog - except my deadly enemies appeared to have fog-proof glasses or something. Not played it since, it's been a couple of years. I suspect there's some artefact or spell etc to clear the fog?

It's kids doing whatever streamers do. Give it a couple of weeks and it'll go full dodo.

Yup will drop off soon, the peak player count was on day one and it's been dropping since, not a good sign for longevity- even base Elden ring did better. As it stands the matchmaking is already affected, lots of players are stuck on the early boss and it takes forever to matchmake later bosses, so once the players who are stuck quit it will drop off big time - and they will quit because there is no progression to make the game easier like in real rogue lites. And for the players who are good, they will quit too and already are because the game has no replay value - once you have killed each boss once there is nothing left to do, because the game has no progression system

I'm pretty much done now; 32.5 hours playtime and just killed the final boss. Game has no end game progression or leveling system to grind, no additional quests and no new game plus, literally nothing further to do other than grinding lame looking skins

thanks for the heads up and from loads of other people's veiws i dont think this game is for me at all, the thing i loved with their past games was mostly the immersive atmospheric feel they gave u with no rush and pure single player unless you choose to summon some one for a boss etc and the challenege in messing about with gear and builds to pass walls.

this game seems a hard nope for me which is a shame as i have bought every from game since the first demons souls on the ps3.

got sceptical as soon as i heard multi player only :P

+1 to skipping Nightreign. Feels like a boss rush mod for Elden Ring propper, but with shoddy performance and pretty wack execution. Making a PVE game completely unpalatable unless you have 2 other good pals to play with in the modern day of gaming is an extremely bizarre decision.

Not sure who their target audience was for this? It's sold in spades, but it's legs are suspect.... and if that's what they aimed for, mission accomplished I suppose.

If you want to play a Roguelike, there are sooooo many better options out there for a damn lot cheaper too.

I had another couple of sessions and I'm half committed to just finishing it now to get my monies worth as I've only a couple of bosses left. I landed a couple of decent gems that up strength, attack, life and also recover HP if you attack right after losing it (same thing as Bloodborne), they've made it somewhat enjoyable now if I go with the big brute Raider.

It's still nearly completely dependent on getting with a good team though, the amount of people that just run off solo or fixate on trying to achieve one thing is mind numbing, they must be reading/watching some sort of guide telling them to go for certain things straight away, at least half of my games have just been everybody running to the same cave or castle and bricking the run because it's too tough out of the gate or too much time has been wasted not actually gathering better gear/upgrades.

It's always been pretty poor, but this game just highlights how desperately they need to update the UI on any future titles, I've no idea what some of the icons/effects/descriptions even mean, it's an absolute mess.

This was my main reason to hold off and glad i did now, thanks for the update.

I've been wandering around the DLC for a good few hours now. Found a lot of scoobydoo fragments, found and killed a mini-boss and a proper boss, but - am I supposed to have some sort of purpose? Other than just wandering aimlessly and seeing what I run into, I've no idea if there's anything I'm actually supposed to try to do?

It can be confusing. Try this guide: ER SOTET Guide, and don't read ahead to minimise spoilers.

I thought I would skip Elden Ring altogether as it seemed like Dark Souls 3 with open world padding, but I now developed an itch for medieval atmosphere with all of it's miasmas, legends and darkness... Of course, nobody does this vibe like Hidetaka Miyazaki - so here I am :)
The first boss in ER - Magrit - is the hardest boss I ever faced, and I've platinumed Sekiro and beat DS3 without much problem. I still don't know how to deal with his multi-hit combo in the second phase, so the win was 50% luck (and see the screenshot).
I made it a point not to level up beyond what i naturally accumulated by purely following the yellow "grace" pointer from the start of the game. I was level 17 something like that.

Your not supposed to rigidly stick to following the yellow lights, they are just a rough guide of the main quest. The open world let's you go off the beaten track and do side quests, explore etc to gain xp as required for the next main boss.
