Agree. Especially as you can find some juicy equipment too
 
Yeah, I got a +7 spear but it’s absolutely gash though. :/ Low damage, I guess that’s because you can attack from behind your shield Spartan style.

Loving the ******* sword personally. Also like the spirit ashes.

I just got annihilated in a castle. Door locked, was dark and I heard some laughing and then insta death.
Having a 100% shield does make some things easier for sure. However I'm not great with melee and can't afford the str points needed to have a shield ATM.

Sensing my gaming enjoyment, the power went off in my area for a few hours so didn’t get to play in the afternoon. :(
Need to compensate tomorrow!

I reckon I should be able to do Magrit now, but it’ll take me a while as I’m still rubbish at the game.
I do like that it doesn’t stop you going places though. Always liked the feeling of finding decent loot in difficult areas in games.
 
Confessor I started with got him to level 26 but I am still having a hard time on the first bridge boss! Started a new char Sorceror and got him down to 20% on my first try at level 12. Playing full on mage is fun though you do get wrecked by the big knights who block everything. Hell it’s all fun I am loving it. Struggling to find smithing stones 1 to get to +3.
 
I got loads of stones but I found a weapon I can't upgrade. Still can't kill the bloody knight in the castle. Anything that rushes me I panic, plus it's hard to get some of my spells out. Going to try pull him out the room.

Ok I cheeses it. He got stuck and I could stab him through the wall. Got my first talisman.

Found a grace inside the castle thankfully. Making slow progress.

Enemies respawning after resting and refilling the flasks is very annoying! This game is hard! But excellent
 
Had my first anger moment. Had made loads of progress in castle and I was expecting to find another grace point but no, a long way back after dying. I'm sure I've missed one.

It’s a deliberate mechanic to allow you to farm levels if you want to. So, if you hit a wall and feel like you want to level up a bit, there they are.
 
This castle is massive. There is some proper nasty stuff later too, I fell down and saw the scenery. The art always gives me the creeps in these games.

Have found a good grinding spot for this stage, it's right before the first proper boss as in gives a rune piece.

How has everyone gone about it?
For me I’ve cleared nearly every cave in first area and all bosses before even going through that 1st wall gate. Yet to do dragon on lake and big golden guy on horse though. Also still need to upgrade my sword!

If you've reached the the Stormhill Shack grace site, head east until you come across a field of giants - there's a small statue in there that if a giant hits it, it breaks and you get maybe 5 smiting stones. But be careful you don't get squished in the process! :D

pretty much followed the light. Killed the bridge thing and Godfrik. Done some stuff on the side, explored a lot of places but not really finished anything. Going to go back to castle as there is lots I've not explored. Currently level 39. Went and killed golden horse guy, had a feeling he'd drop the item he did. No use to me.
