Elden Ring

Think I need a break. It's such an oppressive and depressing game I need something colourful and more cheery.

The zone under the lake/river is IMO the best looking zone in any souls game and the boss fight was really melancholy. Glad to be back to work I think, as said it is intense. Maybe I'll start the frozen wilds Dlc

OK, so getting somewhere now, followed a guide which gave me some special items and something like 12,000 runes and a ton of smithing stones, so now have a +4 longsword and 6 flasks plush a custom one and am at level 20 - got a few bosses down, but still got smashed by the huge guy on horseback near the start :D reminds me of the first time I met the Giants in Skyrim

I see Online is now working, some of the messages are hilarious, and watching the other players die is also amusing! :D

I wish there was a way to turn the phantoms off, fighting a boss that has odd movesets with a white player flying around all over the place is incredibly tedious.

This game is huge though, spent 20 hours or so and barely scratched the surface.

You can play offline if you really want to get rid of that. I don't mind it I am used to it and I quite like the fact that it's so populated.

I started my Elden Ring journey today.

I picked Samurai to start.

Downed a couple of optional bosses but not done any main ones yet. I’m just roaming around and exploring. Need to start levelling up, though, as I’m feeling really under powered in some situations. Well, many situations actually. I’m only level 13 and have low health and only 4 flask uses and they don’t fill a full life bar.

Getting pretty shoddy performance on PS5, though. Turned it down to performance mode and I’m still dropping frames when I’m running around in the open on my horse.

Much better in enclosed places, but even so a bit disappointing.

I’m reserving judgement as I’m only 5.5hrs in, but so far it isn’t grabbing me like Demon’s Souls did. That being said - I’m still enjoying it and have a lot to learn so if anything I think it is more that I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by it than it being a game I’m not going to like. Just need to get my head around it.

I’m trying not to Google stuff but I feel like it’s going to be a bridge too far without some Google-fu!! :p

10 hours in, it's starting to make sense.

sweet i spent about that long with the first boss on demons souls (ps3) and getting to it slowly etc and then it clicked and i was hooked, the satisfaction on these games is amazing, just something about the dreaded atmoshpere and death at every corner and i have a massive tip, never get greedy on hitting something to many times, hit something once or twice and back off till the next opening :)

i dont know how but i took out a few bosses with no armour and just the base club on wretch class, i guess the extra dodging ability with nothing equiped helped but if i got hit i was dead lol

Gonna start this tonight..

how is the performance on series X?

Been playing it over the last few nights on Series X in performance mode and it's been perfect. The environment is looks amazing and it runs very smoothly from what I've found.

Is that Siofra River Depths with the long lift ride down? I found that last night and I was amazed at everything I saw on the lift ride. That place seems huge!

So far I'm loving the game. I've got an amazing Greatsword from the guards in the camp outside the castle gate that I've got to +2 and it is pretty effective. I'm about level 28 and I've been putting my points into STR and DEX, with a little in Vigor and Endurance as well.

Saw some huge bears in a forest last night and noped out of there though! Also made it to a place called Caelid and felt stressed out at how desolate and broken that place was!
