Elden Ring

Finally found a fake wall. I could see a Grace through a window and there was no way to get to it, it made no sense for it to be there so I got a suspicious plain wall and voila.

I have found 4 so far, I am guessing the game has many many more due to its sheer size.

Enjoying it so far. Didn't find Margit too difficult, beat on the 2nd try. Pacing / timing is certainly different to DS games, the muscle memory from those games will probably get you into trouble from mistimed parries / dodges. R2/RT / charged attacks do feel more effective in boss fights if you can get the timing right vs R1/RB flurries as was more common in DS.

Mounted combat feels a bit cheesy at times IMO.

I had a tough time yesterday I found a dungeon with double lane lawnmower things and loads of death smoke gecko. After finally beating that literally 2 minutes later I found another dungeon with warping treasure chests everywhere which was totally confusing, I beat it in the end but it was more luck than judgement.

If anyone is running a faith/bleed build lookup how to get the spell swarm of flies. I randomly got it yesterday and its extremely good it causes blood loss and staggers but is very low cost fp wise for the damage it does.

Managed to finally get past Godrick, tough cookie to kill! help and jellyfish helped :)

Now just mopping up the first part of the map, still finding hard enemies! currently level 67, the Sword of night and flame is helping a LOT

My main criticism of the game is that there are far too many BS moments where you simply get one shotted.

You end up either being amazingly good, brute forcing it or cheesing it which defeats the point of a challenge.

I understand that if you are under-levelled then thats to be expected at times but I don't think I am and I am still getting one shotted.

That does annoy me, I came across some guy near a cave and was mid way through an attack when he killed me - and yet I survived that damn Tree Guardian near the start :D

Is this game any good
Yes, very good, probably the best game since Skyrim for me :)
I haven't played any Souls games before, so a steep learning curve. Be warned it is one of the hardest games I have played in a long time, but worth it

The guy before Rennala who just perfect parries most of my attacks and then one shots me with the subsequent riposte. The options? Get super good at the janky parry mechanism or cheese him by doing jumping R2 attacks which he can't parry.

Then onto another BS part straight after in Rennala. I probably took 20 goes to beat her and every ******* time I had to run for 30s past the annoying spell casters who occasionally hit you a few times and then waste 1 minute on the most pointless and simple first stage of a boss and then try to avoid being hit by basically any of her magic attacks because they all one shot me. I can handle fair difficulty but that was just an exercise in frustration.

He kind of has a point that there are too many "well that's just BS" moments. The game is good but it's not hard because the AI is difficult, it's hard because it is unforgiving.

Gaming time is rare for me and I need a pause key, or to be able to end the game on my terms at short notice. I play on PC and keep the save game location open. So when I have played for 30 minutes or so I will copy paste the folder. If I have to die and have to go back too far, I just overwrite the save folder and it is like a save of sorts. Just takes ages to close the game and reload.

The game also reads inputs to determine boss actions. Saw a video on it where it was demonstrated. Artificial difficulty.
I've cooled on it now, I'll dip in and out but I did play it more than any game in recent memory. Probably add to my list of From games I enjoyed and never finished.

Sounds like the game isn't really for you fez.

I've played every FromSoftware game apart from Dark Souls 2 and Demons Soul. I love their games. There are plenty of people who feel the same way about some of the stuff in the game. One shotting appropriately levelled players is not good game design. They get so many things right but they have made a mistake with some of these.

Started NG+, not sure if it's just me but the enemies health pools don't seem to have increased, bosses are going down in 3/4 hits :p

Agreed on some of the cheese in this game, one boss in particular has a move that is almost impossible to avoid and if they hit you, you're dead even at a high level. That's just BS artificial difficulty and cheap imo.

Malenia.... not only the move im talking about but then there's two phases, she has health recovery on hit as well so if she does hit you, which is almost every time with the particular move, if you don't die she gains a huge chunk of health back.

The fight is cheap because it's more based on luck. If she uses that move you're dead, or pretty much dead. If she doesn't use that move you have a chance.

Is this game any good

IMO - very, it's an acquired taste like every FS game though. If you dont like the mechanics you won't last long as it can be brutal.

yeh it is awesome but punishing, the atmosphere is top notch as is every other soulsbourne game, this one is less brutal thanks to the openworld nature :)

literally reminds me of games of old where you had to remember enemies patterns etc like r-type :)

Until you come across a new area and new enemy and wonder "how much damage will I do to these guys?" followed by "abort, abort, I don't think I even scratched him!".

Game is generally amazing, just a couple of serious niggles with it in places. Still preferred Sekiro and Bloodborne for the atmosphere and aesthetic but its a brilliant game.
