Elden Ring

I've got the Crystal Sword+4 atm, I have the Moonveil but I haven't got the Dex to use it yet.

What you carrying?

On my left hand I have my staff.

On my right hand I have the Moonveil on the first slot, 2nd slot I have a dagger with Bloodhound step and 3rd slot I have a whip with FrostStomp.

I only found the frost stomp yesterday, been testing it out in Limgrave and it’s great at clearing a group of enemies in front of you. The whip also has an okay range, not as far as i liked but okay.

Moonveil against singles.
Bloodhound to get out of trouble.
FrostStomp against groups.

Shield!

I've got Carian Regal Scepter+6 and the Crystal Sword on right.

The Godskin Duo are no more!!!!

Found another entrance to the area, go from the Dragon Temple and go down twice, then through the crumbling hallway and you find another Grace. There is another mist door and before it was a NPC summons, Recusant Bernahl! So with him and the Tiche, a good dose of Rotten Breath and Radhans Swords they went down on the third try (admittedly I have tried about 60 times from the Dragon Temple grace, some of which were deaths from the sodding knights!)

Now to go back to Melenia, managed to get her to the second stage a few times, but then I die pretty much straight away :D

I would wait for a patch, apparently Melenia is close to impossible at the moment.

I looked at a cheese method where I was on a branch where she couldn't reach me but still had to use Shield, I didn't lose health but she gained a fraction each time :(

Absolutely had no idea! Is it just me but how would you know to do something like that? It just seems so random? Or am I missing something obvious here?

Its not an intended use of the shackle (doesn't have to be margit's, any shackle will work), its a side effect of how the illusory walls work. The walls don't trigger on damage, they use the event system to detect an intersecting hitbox. This is why rolling into them also works. The shackles have an AoE hitbox which is why they also work on illusory walls. Any player action that creates a hitbox will trigger the illusory wall.

The shackles happen to be very useful for this because they have a very large range.

Remember the 50 hit / 9999hp walls in Volcano Manor? All the illusory walls have 9999hp. The ones in Volcano Manor had the event script removed as they were not intended to be opened. In the most recent patch those particular illusory walls have been fixed and are now solid.

Can anyone suggest a good "read this first" guide? I've made a start on the game, and have met the lady who allows you to level up, but am otherwise basically wandering around killing things and being killed, and don't really know where to go, what to focus on etc.
I don't want some huge guide which gives everything away, but something saying "head that way, think about these things relating to builds etc" would be helpful!
