Elden Ring

Beat Malenia last night on my PS5 run through of the game, was getting absolutely smashed to pieces over and over again before I decided to stop using my mimic and just spend a few 'deaths' learning her move set. It's been two years since I last fought her on my PC run of the game and it's like coming in blind all over again.

No issue getting through the first phase, it was the second that was ruining me. 5 deaths later, figured out which ones to roll into, which ones I could just step away from and she was done!

Last boss(es) to go and then it's onto the DLC for me.

Did you know if you throw a pot at her just before she does the waterfowl, it breaks her move?

Managed to down the lord of frenzied flame today which was a frustrating fight. Went back to Mesmer who was annihilating me previously and managed to take him down on about the 6th try but oh my god was it close. I had a sliver of health left and no heals and was just panic rolling like my life depended on it!! Snake attack after snake attack I somehow dodged.

Fair play to my mimic - he saved my ass and whilst Mesmer was aggroing him I jumped in and landed the killing blow.

Not sure how I didn’t die - I mean I was so screwed in that fight. I basically spent his entire second phase with no health!!

She was my wall too. Took me so long to beat her but I got her in the end after a break of several months. Same as you, was always the 2nd phase she got me.

She wasn’t Geninchiro hard, but she probably killed me more times than any other boss.

5/5 dlc until Radahn but every bit of enjoyment has been ground out of me after close to 12 hours of zero progression on his second stage.

Changed my build to cheese impenetrable thorns and I’m done with it. Sad to end up feeling about a game like this but they got this very very wrong.

Anyone played Elden Ring without PS Plus/online? I’m assuming it takes away all the hints people left, and the ‘shadows’ of people moving around etc.

Does it detract from the experience?

I never play online. I turned that function off day 1. Can’t say as it has detracted from the experience. I also turned off online play on the Demon’s Souls remake also.

I didn’t like the interference of other people invading my game or shadow things running across my screen all the time. Just breaks the immersion (imo).

To be fair, invades only happen if you're playing co-op. You won't get people just invading you as you play normally and solo.

The notes/messages are quite useful at times (and funny) - but also can be a total annoyance too.

'Dog ahead' - it's not a dog, it's a massive dragon.

'Careful, dog!' - also not a dog, it's just a tortoise.

Always play online, I wouldn't have found a lot of stuff without the messages. Though this late on I wouldn't mind disabling them as it's all just really boring variatons of "try fingers but hole" and fake invisible wall messages.

Interesting. Pretty sure in Demon’s Souls I got invaded several times and wasn’t playing co-op - or not that I was aware of at least. Maybe I didn’t have my settings correct?

Elden Ring simply can't be enjoyed without the "Finger but whole" message every 50 ft ... ;)

I've not played the remake but when I played it on PS3 you could invade solo on Demon Souls, you just had to be in soul form.

Elden Ring definitely changed it so it has to be co-op - and often if you invade you'll be 1v2 against the 2 you've invaded and they can call a hunter in as well, so it ends up 3v1.

Finished the DLC today. Killed the last boss after 6-7 attempts. Prior to him I was struggling with Bayle. Hands down the hardest boss fight for me in the DLC in terms of number of attempts!

Between him and the Erdtree avatar I reckon I died a gazillion times.

Not sure on what to do now. Think I’ve killed all the other main optional bosses.

Stilling plugging away with this. Managed to get to explore most of the map with the exception of west of Shadow Keep as Messmer is my next challenge. After many attempts I somehow both died and killed Metyr in such a way I received zero runes (cry). Unsure if I bugged the game but I then did not receive any runes for killing the black night and Ymir. Oh well!

The game and level design still surprise me and I managed to discover and attain the impenetrable thorns spell which I understand is great again Messmer. Now time to up my faith and upgrade the Great Beyond staff. Loving it!

I got runes for Metyr but nothing for Jolen or Ymir so I don’t think it’s a bug per se. I’ve read runes can be sketchy when you die just as you kill a boss though.

Did you receive Metyr’s remembrance?

Finished SotE last week, very impressed overall - though annoyingly I went straight to the main locations and burned the tree which cut off a bunch of sidequests...ah well!
Massive game really with so many layers to the map in parts.

Radahn fight was great IMO. I didn't have *too* much trouble - dex/arcane bleed build, Occult Nagakiba with Seppuku skill and mimic tear, no NPC summons. I would have used one of the Great Katanas I was happily using for the rest of the DLC, but they were too slow for that kind of fight. Getting the first phase roll timing down didn't take too long, second phase was much more chaotic but I had enough flasks/mimic health left over from nailing first phase that it didn't take too many tries at that point. Though dodging the meteor attack felt like pure dumb luck!

I almost binned it off at Messmer last night. Although I had managed on my first round of attempts last week to get to this second phase, when I started my attempts yesterday I could hardly get out from under his first attack and AOE explosion. I also noticed the Hornssent summons had disappeared from the middle of the area which further furstrated me until after about trhe 10th attempt I clocked it had been moved to the entrance?! When did they do that?

Anyways, strategy was to enter, summons Hornnsent, attempt the roll out of the way in to the main arena, then summons mimic and blast away with Inpenetrable Thorns. Done him on the second attempt with thast strategy! Now slowly exploring the West part, lots of verticality!
