Electric shavers

Yup, electric is a compromise but for me it’s ‘close enough’ and so much more convenient and this I only use electric now.

I may have been off on my definitions, by 'wet' I meant DE shaving and 'electric' meant exactly that. I don't know what 'modern wet' is but it sounds like something I'd need to go google incoginto for.

I’d assume modern wet is your Gillettes of this world. Blades in a plastic casing which make it much harder to cut yourself.

I am 54 with dark hair that seems to get thicker and thicker with age. It seems to vanish from the top bit of my head and reappear in a curly annoying form in ears and nose too.

I hate getting older (er)

To add I broke my ear n nose thingy at the weekend, its replacement is due at my front door in the next hour!

I tried high end philips and braun and much prefer the braun. I struggle with both though and need to go over and over areas many times.
I use a DE most of the time and only use an electric to make a change or if in a mad rush.

I've used various ones from Braun/Philips over the years and the Braun 7000 series is definitely the best I've tried. Leaves less stubble, genuinely feels powerful (nothing like clasping a fat throbbing rod) and the charge lasts ages.
All the cheaper ones I've had for like £30 £40 etc seem to last about 5mins before they go slow and you can't use them while charging (I assume for safety reasons) meaning if you are in rush you are screwed.

Ear hair is something I was never warned about until it happened.

Had the Series 9 (9240s) since 2018 and since then have replaced the blade cartridge 3 times along with several cans of the cleaner. I link to the cleaner because my experience is that without using the cleaner the blade performance is much worse as time goes on. At least with the cleaner I find the cutting performance stays clean and leaves smooth skin whereas just washing and drying under a tap without using it afterwards results in a gradual and noticeable drop in performance (hairs get missed etc especially on the upper neck).

Until it fails completely I will continue to use it I think and just replace the carts once a year. Cannot stress enough how important the spray lube cleaner is though to keep those blades in good order.

I hate shaving I find it an inconvenience but also can't grow a decent beard so have been looking for electric shavers for ages and not know which to try

Pretty sure I want foil so I might try one of these Panasonic 67 jobs and ask the Mrs if she'll be so kind for Christmas

I actually think it is more a lubricant than cleaner. My advice is take a brush to it first and then water. Dry and then run it on a cycle. Just putting a shaver full of hair in and clicking clean doesn’t work well.

Oh for sure, my routine is always to clean under the tap first to get the hairs out first then once dried, spray on the lubricant whilst the shaver is on so it gets all up in the blades. It does say it cleans it as well as it's anti-bacterial and you can smell the strong whiff of alcohol agent in it too.

Before getting the spray I'd just rinse and dry after brushing the hairs out. Just that wasn't keeping the blades in good shape whereas even after a year they still seem good but I change cassette when the light comes on out of practice.

Anybody have a recommendation for an electric jobby that would do both my face and the sides of my head. Needs to have a precise trimmer attachment too though to keep my mohawk tidy.

Wait until you get odd eyebrow hair. Pipe cleaner level of bends.

Pulled one the other day with tweezers. Proper meaty one too, one of the ones that you can hear 'squeak' as it comes out.

My dad wants one of these for his birthday.

Series 9 is too expensive.

Is a Braun series 7 for £129 going to be ok?

I think he has asked me to buy him one as he can't choose one...
Any advice much appreciated
