Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

Reading about switching to Octopus reminded me to do the same, got a referral link from my Dad. I have no idea why I stuck with EDF for so long - I thought they would get my smart meters working but nah. I'll just give monthly readings like I used to when I was using Sainsbury's energy. EDF website looks broken and they couldn't even give me my energy usage data which I think breaks some kind of Ofgem rule, but not my problem anymore.

Crazy to think how much I was paying all year from last July!

Unit Rate (Day) 34.45p per kW/h
Unit Rate (Night) 14.58p per kW/h

Compared to now on GO

Unit Rate (Day) 24.45p/kWh
Unit Rate (Night) 8.5p/kWh

I’ve just joined octopus go after years of being with BG, glad im paying 4p per kWh less during the day and slight increase of 0.005p per night kWh. Already seen a change in usage and billing. Would recommend to anyone.

@Richie

Energy boss Greg Jackson has said people living near wind farms – such as in Scotland - should pay less for their electricity.

The founder and chief executive of Octopus said it was "crazy" that the electricity price was the same across the UK.

Yeah I seen that... I'm sure a certain @200sols will be along any time to give his take on it... Dont let me down chief :p

About bloody time. We have three massive windfarms around us yet have some of the most expensive electricity and standing charges in the country. On the other hand, is he going to do the same for people living near power stations and solar farms?

I assume he singles out Wind Farms due to their visual and/or noise impact to locals near them... Do traditional power stations and solar farms have the same "nuisance" impact on people? (genuine question)

Should water be cheaper for people near the sea too and food for people near a farm. Not sure I buy the logic

I’m sure the emissions, even at the top of a smoke stack, do more damage to locals than any other form of generation.

Edit: it’s the only form of generation that does any actual impact that isn’t made up in your own head.

Traditional coal stations were horrible to be near.
I would guess a modern gas station not so much of an issue.
Solar its really just the initial setup thats the issue (have one near me and its irrelevant). They are also proposing to build another much larger one near me, and there will be considerable local traffic issues for a considerable period of time.
Even talk of closing the A road junction we use so that site traffic get to use it.
