Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

Despite EONNEXT claiming nobody on a fixed rate would pay over the odds my latest bill tells me I would save money by moving to the SVR (next flex) - will definitely be ditching them once this is over.. my DD is also based on the original October price cap less the £66 and not the EPG less £66 and I bet I have fun trying to get them to sort that out..

Well, to be fair, the system may technically be correct. You fixed on the v19 plan which is higher than SVR...

What you need to check is what unit rate you are actually charged in your Oct bill when you get it. You may find it's adjusted on there.

Well this is fun so far. -66 noted on OVO account statement. Refund turned up in my bank account so I promptly sent it back to OVO so it’s now showing +66 a few days after it was sent to me. Gotta do this every month it seems - shame they can’t just keep it and apply to the account!?

Now £288 in credit and total bill for September was £88. DD is £125 and they are still suggesting (but no longer pushing after my complaint) that it is raised to £232 a month
Nothing from ovo yet?

Wait to see what the actual unit price you pay is on your bill. I am in the same boat, when I login it isn't showing the lower rates on my V19 tariff however I have an email saying we'll receive the lower rates and that it make take a while for them to update what we see when we login. The important bit is what we end up paying.

I'm on v18 - and yes looking at the bill they have applied a % discount against the v18 tariff - however that means I save 1p on both standing charges then pay the correct amount for gas and 2p over for electric so def need to get on the SVR.

Weird. I expected a refund to hit today maybe.
If it goes into balance I'm going to have to request yet another refund as my DD is set ignoring the 400
Today 66 hit my bank account.
Slightly inconvenient as I was reducing my DD amount by as much as I could in anticipation of extra 400.

I gave the readings for my final month on nice low fixed tariff with OFTM on the usual day of the month. The DD went out as expected and checked today as I should have had the statement by now and nowt.

I expect they are trying to decide on my new new monthly DD but that shouldn't prevent them from issuing my statement and deducting a payment from balance on time. I assume they will apply the first £66 credit when the sort everything too buy I will give a couple of days and then try their apparently useless phone line :p. I know it is going to hurt but I don't want a nasty surprise with some wildly unreasonable figure next month.

Nothing for me yet.

66 pending refund
66 pending refund vanishes
66 applied to my balance
66 subtracted from balance

I'm guessing it will appear in my bank account tomorrow.

I bet they are getting no end of calls asking about it with this bizarre method

Putting the money in peoples bank accounts is just stupid - the money is for energy bills so just discount off the bill rather than let people potentially spend it and then complain they cant afford to heat their house..

I prefer it.
My DD would be out of balance if it got applied to my energy account

I'd end up with 400 of extra credit. And I'd just have to ask for that back

there isnt a 1 shoe fits all unfortunately. Personally i think it is vital this money is spent on what it is meant to be spent on...... and putting the money on your energy account is the best way to ensure this.

There isn't. Clearly the energy companies feel refunding if your on DD is best. I think most are doing this

Shell have increased our DD to £214 despite the £400 from the gov. and despite us having over £500 in credit. They are suggesting they think our usage will be £340/month. It will be a cold day in hell before I let our bill get that high!

Just need the DD to be reduced by £66 though and then the credit applied. The simple way of doing it like Octopus have. I actually put my DD back up though as I want to build a little credit in case anything changes/it gets worse in future and I don't need to scramble about to find more in future then.

Shell have been absolutely awful on projections for DD for us. I actually did the math for the previous year to work out our projection and it was massively less than what they were estimating.

In the end we just couldn't be bothered with it, so we switched to pay the bill in full every month and avoid the whole credit DD nonsense.

I'm with SP but the same thing happened, even though I'm on a fix and in credit they increased my DD. Had to call them to revert it back.

I can't see how it's any different

100 out, but 66 in
Vs
34 out.

Absolutely no difference
Guess it depends on how you pay your bill
If its DD then yes it's sort of the same if you get the DD reduced or the help money goes directly to bank account.
But for people who don't pay by DD and just pay each month then it's up to them to keep paying their energy bills and not use the £67 for something different which when say they are on a low income or generally blow their money on drink, drugs and sexy girls won't always be the case.
