Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

I had a bill a few days ago which shows a portion on the old SVR then I moved to v18 from the 1st - so there are two sets of tariffs, then the VAT added and the £66 removed and the 17/4p discount so all a bit of a mess - their call centre must be having a nightmare explaining this..
DM me if you want me to have a look over it.

The original plan was to discount everything down to the EPG or by the max 17/4 discount, whichever applied however its proved to be a ******* nightmare to do, so i believe they have now gone with "everyone on SVT". But that was only decided last week so it may take a little time to get everything updated and adjusted

Thanks for the offer but I'll give them a week or two to sort it out - 2p a unit its not going to make a great difference in the short term - if I do want to go on to the SVR will they do that via WhatsApp or do I have to speak to someone?

Had a text confirming the 66 will arrive in my bank account. Whole thing is no worry. But for people on the edge, I feel it could have been handled better.
Just with better communication

The social media teams are pretty good for getting things done so should be able to do it via whatsapp

People talking about these 3 hour enforced power cuts... how likely are these going to be then? Media scaremongering?

Yes, and it's irresponsible. I would put the chances at about 10% or less. Just be prepared in case and there's nothing wrong with that but the way the media have been behaving they deserve a slap around the face for being hysterical

Agreed, Octopus only just told me about the £66 (because my DD date is on the 15th), yet I have this notice on my dash about the DD been reduced (without the reason) for weeks.

Do Octopus even have a pay as you go service ? maybe themselves like other providers have triaged their customers so that they resolved the government credit to those in the most need first ?
(which wouldn't be folks with a tonne of credit)

Go and look at the powerpoint presentations by the national grid and understand the simulations they made eg. https://www.nationalgrideso.com/document/264521/download and the gas one,
before giving ill informed opinion.

Oh I had the credit last week, i am just talking about the communication.

Are my sums right here…
I’ve used 1.001 units of gas in an hour. That’s 32.1885 kWh.
At 10.28pkwh it’s £3.31 to have my heating on for an hour…

Yikes! Staying off until December!
32kWh of gas for 1 hour of heating, christ how big is your house?

i worked out 1 hour of heating was using about 14kWh of gas for my place, its a 2012 build with 13 Radiators of varying size.

Yea it does seem a bit high eh? It’s a 1920s 3 bed semi…

No idea when the boiler was last serviced so think that’ll be my first step.

i guess older boiler also. A combination of things i guess. Amazing the difference. 4 bed detached here with the 13 rads as i said, and the boiler is a 15KW ideal logic heat.

My first Octopus "GO" bill not covered by the cap price.

The standing charge is a killer for me for what I use from the grid.

Almost all the bill is on the lower rate, thats a nice setup with a battery ?

Turn thermostats down to 15 and spend the money on proper clothing, insulation boring stuff but gas tripled so figures its too much. Even a fan heater will be better then gas heating now, a heated blanket is very cheap.

My theory for anyone older is each decade in age makes for 1 degree difference you feel, so people in their eighties are feeling at least 6c more cold then somebody running around in their twenties or thirties

Yes, two 7.2kw batteries run the house during peak times (diy setup)

Nearly all of the use is the Immersion heater to heat one tank of hot water at the cheap rate 1.5-2kWH daily (no mains gas out in the countryside)

It’s eight years old, and it won’t have been an expensive model when installed so probably inefficient as hell. Got a man coming out next week to service it so maybe that’ll help…

The MIL is buying us heated blankets for Christmas, may ask for them early!

Shell energy here - bill should have been ready two days ago. Still isn't just the DD Payment:

So I can't see if the £66 has been deducted or breakdown of the bill, but the account shows £66 credit ....

shells billing looks to be making it up as they go along:

The value in pounds is based on current tariff even for 12 months ago so you can compare like for like but clearly isn't taking into consideration the drop in usage in the last few months. They only got the gas smart meter working in January so that's not got 12 months worth of data but can see Sep went from about £350 at current prices to about £115. Quite a drop.

I requested a refund weeks ago and have had to chase them up again for a refund as the credit balance is getting used to pay for half the battery storage i'm in the middle of commissioning. I'll be raising a complaint if I don't get it back soon.

Energy companies are such crooks. Had our first bill through for our holiday place and an ‘estimated usage’ of 850kwh at about £250 for a month! Absolute jokers. I’ll send our actual usage once I read the meter next week. I mean our main home only uses 200kwh! Glad we didn’t setup a DD.

According to Octopus watch app calculator during October I am saving between 20-40% every day vs Octopus GO on Agile.

Still uncertainty on gas tracker as every single day since the cap came in the tracker has been significantly below the October cap (below April cap some days also). Octopus never sent emails out for gas tracker, and havent been able to see the cap because of low daily wholesale costs.
