Energy Suppliers

I moved from AVRO Energy to Outfox The Market when moving house in February as they were the cheapest

AVRO CS was shocking when I left - saying I hadn't submitted final readings etc - eventually after 2 months and numerous emails I got my £70 credit refunded - good luck to anyone actually requiring Avro's CS

Haven't had any issues with Outfox The Market *touch wood* - all queries have been sorted out over instant chat quickly including increasing my DD

Question:
How much should gas be if it's only used for normal amounts of cooking for 2 people over a month? my gas bill is £30 per month which I think is expensive in this scenario - wondering if the meter in my new place is working properly

Our gas bill was between £15-20 a month last year from May to November time when the heating was off so does seem quite high, no idea if it will be cheaper now we are on Breeze, but for May we've used barely anything compared to May last year so hoping it will be less

EDIT - Even in December when heating was on the most, it was only £29

Thanks for the info

Yeah £30 seems high, was hoping for around half that in summer - I'll check again next statement to be sure as I've definitely turned off the central heating and preheating water function on the thermostat this month

FYI my tariff details are:
Electricity = 10.54 p/kWh inc 5% VAT
Gas = 3.21 p/kWh inc 5% VAT
Membership = £6.99 per month

I was prompted by The Cheap Energy Club to do a updated comparison and Outfox the Market is still coming in cheapest for me but there is no way in hell I am going anywhere near them with the abysmal feedback they have been getting lately. Next cheapest is Economy Energy who is being investigated by Ofgem so they are out as well. Next cheapest are USIO and Utility Point who are too new to have any reliable feedback so I won't even consider them. There are a few others but the savings are so small that it makes more sense to stick with Bulb who have been excellent for me.

I think I'm going to go with bulb. Are they typically the cheaper option all year round?

Is there data that shows how the bulb variable unit cost has changed - spent 10 minutes googling internet and failed - why would bulb not show this too.

I would like to know how they would have compared restrospectively versus current npower fixed rate of 10.65, 2.66, £12.6 per month vs current bulb.
FYI my tariff details are:
Electricity = 10.54 p/kWh inc 5% VAT
Gas = 3.21 p/kWh inc 5% VAT
Membership = £6.99 per month

Regarding Bulb and their price rises they increased their prices by 2.8% recently and went from:-

Standing charge is unchanged but gas is going from 2.52p per kwh to 2.73p per kwh and electricity from 13.51p per kwh to 13.56p per kwh

They sent out a email last week warning us of another possible rise in August due to electricity cost rises because of the price of gas. How ironic that is when they are 100% green electricity and our county seems to be the dumping ground for most windfarms in Scotland. We probably have more than anywhere else in the UK and even more are in the pipeline. Unfortunately there is only one price for electricity in the UK and even companies using renewables get stung when the price of gas increases.

Thanks, ( I had wrongly thought oxide was with bulb.)
and found bulbs latest regional prices, which work out some £60 more than my existing fixed june2018 npower deal.
so the question is whether contracting with bulb will work out cheaper than a new 2yr fixed rate contract elsewhere.

I will look - but does the bulb 100% green electric mean they have hydro to fill in when the wind is not blowing.

Evening all

Moved house two months ago and have been lazy at sorting out the energy bills.

Just got back from holiday so thought it overdue so am looking online now, just used the MSE club thing and filtered out the poorly rated companies.

Avro seems to be coming out tops:

3.045p KW/h, 19.058p per day for gas

12.521p KW/h, 19.058p per day for electricity

I gather this is not the greatest deal on the world but I am guessing it isn't horrific?

For info I am based In Hampshire, border with Surrey.

I have been with Utility Point since the beginnig of the year and have encountered no major problems. The only minor problem I had was the timing of payments and bills, but this was quickly sorted to suit me.

I admit I was weary of transferring to a company I haven't heard of before and who only shows in results from Energy Helpline - I guess they don't pay enough to the other comparison sites. But I have no regrets - especially with my prices being fixed until the middle of 2019. :cool:

so utility point seems much cheaper than bulb ,>10% on my bill, largely down to their miraculously small standing charge
[currently with npower, neigbour had suggested ovo]

they all have £30 duel fuel discount too,

UP have an exit fee if you use a referral too "fees are applicable if you are on a flexible package and did not become a member directly through our website."

We are moving at the end of the month to a new build. They are supposed to be more energy efficient so hopefully we can enjoy slightly lower bills. It's looking like a toss up between Bulb and OutFoxTheMarket. We tend to use quite a bit of electric so probably gonna go with the cheapest for this.

Oh no. I'm with them, and very recently went to switch away, mainly because very time I have called them it has taken 20 minutes to speak to someone! Anyway, they blocked the switch saying I was in debit - and when I checked they had upped my estimated usage. I submitted readings and asked them to resolve, but they wanted photo evidence which I sent them. Only after I threatened to go to OFGEM did they resolve it - turns out I was £400+ in credit!! So now we will see how the switch goes...
