Energy Suppliers

So bulb will be rising prices again in the next 3 months by the look of it.

This will prob push me away in terms of price if I can find a better tarrif with a decent supplier.

I'm with SSE (dual fuel) on their standard tariff and planning to switch to a different supplier. I entered my kWh usage on MSE Cheap Energy Club and Citizens Advice and these companies came up which I put it all in a spreadsheet for record.

Bulb is highly recommended in this thread but seeing that they might have another price rise in November (3rd time this year) and with energy prices not getting cheaper, I prefer to have a fixed tariff than variable. Eversmart seems to have the best rates but which supplier would you go for if you were in my position?

the edf one aug 13 v3, looked pretty good, couple of pages back. .. i wondered if going for a small company is still beneficial

There are dual fuel reductions (same everywhere?) and the bulb cashback/vouchers too ?
The EDF Easy Online Aug19 tariff for me is 3.61p kWh / 26.25p standing charge for gas and 16.06p kWh / 18.90p standing charge for electricity.

I know you get £50 from Bulb for signing up using a referral but Eversmart still looks the cheapest for me (save £288 a year) but there are some good and bad reviews of them on MSE's forum but I guess as long as I provide them meter readings and the gas and electric works then there shouldn't be any problems.

Also, I did consider Utility Point seeing people on this thread switched to them from Bulb and with them having a good unit rate and low standing charge but just checked again and they have increased the fixed tariff prices (3.32p kWh / 15p standing charge for gas and 14.08p kWh / 15p standing charge for eletricity).

That's the easy online one, but not the v3 version.

The v3 was only on the comparison sites like mse energy club.

See my post here for the rates I had: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/energy-suppliers.18712884/page-18#post-31994769

Came with £25 cashback after 3 months as well which is always welcome :)

Having a nightmare all of a sudden today with my switch from BG to E-on.

Ended up using Uswitch and I thought everything was underway. They have emailed a few times updating me on the progress so all's been fine.

Then today Eon emailed saying it's time for my first electricity meter reading to be submitted (keeping in mind I'm switching both enegies). The email sent and received today on the 13th is asking for my readings to be submitted by... the 7th of August, 6 days ago.

So I tried to follow the link on the email and the site barely loads. Eventually got to my account and it says my meter readings have been submitted, even though I haven't done so yet. And again only lists electric as an option.

So did a live chat and the guy pretty much said the gas switch hasn't gone ahead for a range of possible reasons, I guess they just weren't going to tell me? As far as I'm aware it's all going fine.. He gave me a number to contact directly in the morning when they reopen. I have until tomorrow to cancel the switch so that better not be too late because it's no good to me if they can't take both energies.

Might just cancel it anyway as this isn't giving me much hope for being a customer going forward but what happens then? I'm currently now on British gas variable rate I guess as my tariff with them ended at the end of July

per post a few back, and my experience, they continue the old tarif until handover, if request was enetered before tarif ended ... so you're not loosing
... is gas handowver just delayed a few days ? take pictures of meters to send them too.

Bulb told me date when the handover would occur - E-on sound rubbish

What's next?
Today
We get cracking!
In 9 days
We'll give you an update
In 16 days
We'll need your first meter reading
In 19 days
We'll remind you about your first payment
On 9 Jul 2018
You're officially a Bulb member. Hurrah!

Thanks, not too sure I logged back in to British gas and it does say we are now on the variable August plan :(

Eon was giving me updates like the above too, but then today it's become a complete mess and it sounds like they decided to cancel the gas switch but not the electric for no reason and haven't let me know that at all :/

I have checked on MSE Energy Club again and there isn't a v3 of the tariff for me, they must have pulled the tariff as the rates were good consider it is from the Big Six.

Yep that does appear to be the case!

Good luck with the hunt :)
I think I'm going to go with the E.ON Go Online 1 Year v16 tariff on MSE Energy Club, the rates are 2.92 kWh / 20.48p standing charge for gas and 14.06p kWh / 15.37p standing charge for electricity) with £25 cashback after 3 months so it works out at £797 a year compared to £1044.

It is monthly direct debit so not sure if they charge what I use or a fixed amount and then goes to credit.

Just hang fire, sometimes dual switches don’t go through simultaneously. Give it a couple of weeks at least. There are quite a few independent networks now and some can be very slow to confirm the supply details to the suppliers. However the suppliers are more than capable of generating their own ****-ups too. I had great fun with E-on and transposed rate readings on an Econmy 7 meter, and my girlfriend had a huge saga with Scottish Power who were unable to generate a bill for 4 years following a routine meter swap. We never did get an accurate bill after moving out, actually we got about 10 different bills with different numbers on, none of which were correct. Eventually we settled for about 60% of what I calcualed we owed them!

went with outfox the market.

you pay a single £8.99 fee per month for dual fuel. which split to £4.50 per fuel per month standing charge in effect. which is 15p per day per fuel. i was paying around double that for 1 fuel (30p for just gas per day) so basically with outfox the market the standing charge is 50% less.

on top of that their leccy is 3p per kwh cheaper however their gas is 1p per kwh more expensive. however since i'm a low user. the £8-9 a month i'll be saving in standing charges every month will more than make up for the 1p per kwh difference on gas.

i'm looking for my bill to drop from £80 per month (£20 leccy, £60 gas) to £60 per month with outfox the market.

So looking for some advise will be getting my first ever home shortly so all this energy stuff is new to me. What do I need to be looking to be getting the best rate. It will just be me living in the house so should not be a high energy user.

I started the switch to them from npower the other day as well, hopefully both our transitions are smooth :p

They can't be as useless at npower. It took about 3 months for them to get my first reading because their system was having issues, then despite submitting monthly readings they still sent me an estimated bill for my last bill (they did correct this when I called them up). The npower app is rather nice looking though, I like the graph view.

probably outfox the market is your best bet due to low standing charge. standing charges for most for duel fuel are around £15-£20 per month. that is before you use any leccy or gas. with outfox it's £8.99 for both.

i had zero issues with npower and i really liked their website and app, but i know a lot of people have had issues. EDF app and website is very basic. it gives you no information tbh.

i hope outfox can get competitive on gas prices. however it's likely i'll need a new gas boiler within the next 5 years anyway which should help cut costs due to it being more efficient.

I use about twice as many kwhs of gas over electric, and I use a fair bit of electric (8 bay Nas on 24/7, big tv with 5.1 speakers, powerful pc etc?. Are you sure this checks out given most of your bill is gas?
