Energy Suppliers

This whole Bulb thing seems like a giant ponzi scheme using referrals. I'm switching just now and they come out nowhere near the top of the Citizens Advice list of suppliers for lowest prices, their prices aren't fixed either.

There's no real downside: no contract exit fee, so just get your £50 and move on if better deals are available . They were close to being cheapest anyway for me, and the £50 referral tipped it in their favour. Plus being 100% renewable (for Elec: I'm elec-only) adds a small amount of value. Maybe it works differently in different areas if the country, for pricing relative to the rest of the market (?)

As for ponzi: 'Penetration pricing' is no new thing. That's basically what they're doing. It's not like you lose anything by buying in.

The night rate from Bulb is cheaper but since I convinced the missus that getting out of bed at 3am to save a couple of pence using the tumble dryer wasn't worth it night usage has been reduced lately ;)

how does that work anyway? i take it you need a smart meter or do you have 2 meters?

as in how do they know when you used the electricity if it was 3am or 3pm?

Just a single dumb digital meter which changes from day to night rate via a radio signal at a specified time which depending on the time of year starts at 11.30 or 12.30pm and ends at 6.30 or 7.30am. Mine has a button you press to read the two counters. Previously we had a big old mechanical meter with two odometer style readouts.

Wait until it does economy 7 signal hits, then put a Faraday cage around the meter, cheap electricity forever!

1. I am pretty sure I know the answer but the change over from the old/new supplier is NOT the sign-up date (15th July), but the supply start date (5th August)? I made the switch on Uswitch if that helps.

2. Scottish Power, who I am leaving have yet to send me a final bill, and invoiced me on 10th August, leaving me £5.25 in debit. Tonik invoiced me on 5th August for the first time. I asked SP today, who said there has been a technical error, and they will process the last bill now, but that might take 30 days from today.

So, I still owe SP £5.25. I am worried they will bill me for a whole month (£38) on 10th September. Should I risk cancelling my DD, and pay them the final bill manually?
